Default 99vette

alot of f body's here. any vette people? want to know the limitations to drivetrain. hp the engine, trans, rear go bad? exhaust? big vs. loud? hp? got big borla very quiet.

pssssst fbodies and vettes of the same year have the same drivetrain. So the limitations are going to be the same.

c5 Corvettes had the same ls1, t56 or 4l60e as the f bodies unless he's driving a zo6.

yes z28bryan is right, but different driveshaft/rear

The transmission is in the back of the C5+ it may still be a "4l60" or a "t56" but it is not a direct replacement for any conventional engine/trans combination with a driveshaft.

The engine is in the front with the trans behind it then a driveline then the rear thats how ALL corvettes are we are talking GM here not porsche

If your going to call out a veteran of this site with 5000+ posts, at least know what your taking about.

Here is what a C5 pullout drivetrain looks like



From left to right.

Engine, Torque Tube Transmission, rearend.

The C5+ corvettes are not the conventional Engine/Trans - driveshaft - rearend setup.

wow, i stand corrected i didnt know gm had that kind of design in the newer corvettes. Guess i should do some research before sticking my foot in my mouth. sorry for jumping on your case slow your right.

Yeah for transaxles. A transmission with the drive axle included.

what hp range are you talking about? anything over 400 and you'll be looking at a new clutch. and it would be advisible to get output shafts on the rear at the same time. and also a rear end brace.
they are pretty durable, unless you start throwing a big tire, or big HP at them.
plenty of guys with 550+hp on stock rear with a brace and hardened output shafts.

engine...same as an fbody on limitations. parts will be slightly higher, especially stuff exterior boltons (intake, headers, exhaust, ect).
2 biggest names in exhaust are Corsa and Borla. free'est flowing/loudest= borla XR-1.
most popular... probably Corsa Indy or Pace
expect to pay 1200-1800 for headers. LG Motorsports is a good brand and actually made by borla for them. Kooks is also good too. kooks=few more top end HP, LG=few more under the curve tq #'s.
