Default Learning to Launch

Well first things first. I have a stock 01 z-28 with an a4 and some shitty kumhos on the back. If i try to leave it at idle and then just punch it, I spin. If i run it up to about 2 maybe 2500 i spin. I am trying to figure out what i am doing wrong. I know i need new tires and i will be getting them soon but any advice on how to keep me from sliding into the other car would be helpful.

Stop flooring it off the bat until you can grip more w/ stickier tires/suspension mods...

That simple.

The one thing you are doing wrong is punching the throttle.
Try progressively putting your foot down rather then slamming it down.
The idea is to gradually open the throttle and NOT overpower the tires.

Also, no matter what street tire you run you'll most likely be able to spin them gunning the throttle off the line.

yap.

First time i ran a 20.00 something. You can't haul ***. From a dig is all about launching technique. Best way to learn is to find a empty lot and try to your hearts delight.

I think he's got it now. I just saw him do a pretty good launch. He's got pretty shitty tires, but a loud pedal roll on worked pretty good. I drop the hammer from a dig, but my tires hold really really really well!!

I've always heard that with street tires doing a burn out is pointless. I am going to get two new back tires this week. If you have any suggestions, they would be appreciated. Tire size is 245/50/16

i suggest you get some new wheels and tires while your at it, get you some zr1's or something with a fat *** tire in the back like a 17x11 wheel.

Before my torque converter my tires barely spun at all, thats with BFG G Force Sport tires.

And you shouldnt be able to rev it to 2500 on a stock converter, it actually sounds like you have a high stall, if so street tires are fucked against that.

And as far as what you are doing wrong, the only thing you are doing wrong is expecting cheap tires to hook up, they aren't going to you have to regulate the throttle out of the hole if you are spinning.

Heating up street tires and getting them somewhat sticky does help. My gf's 00 T/A 3.42s with auto stalled/foot braked to like 1500rpm right before the tires start to break launch at full throttle i am able to cut 1.9 60's on street tires. Not that hard it chirps off the line but that is about it. I run 25psi in them also. Yes i was under the misconception that burnouts on street tires does nothing, well it does do something just not as much as a drag radial will do with a good burnout.

Well, I just bought the car and I am just working with what I have at the moment. I think the guy who had the car b4 me did some work to it. I know he put an ory and a flowmaster muffler on it but anything else im not sure. I am starting to get the hang of these shitty tires though. As soon as I get some more I will let you guys know what happens.

LCA relocation brackets with the lca's mounted in the bottom hole will help too. Some peeps count 1-one thousand as they roll into the throttle before putting your foot thru the floor with crappy tires. Last time at the track i got 2.0 60's on 245 all season tires(30psi-too high) with a good amount of wheelhop. After my second set of lca's and using the bottom bracket hole, zero w-hop now. Shooting for low 1.9's later this month.
