Question Long Tube Header Install

I bought a set of BBK full length headers and Y pipe. I have never installed headers before and I can use some advise or directions. What do I have to re move on the car inorder to install these headers? How big of a job is this?

There is a good write up floating around...just do a search for it. Best two pointers: 1. Get the front end way up...way up. 2. Take the coil packs off first thing. Everything else comes easy. Just keep a can of pb blaster handy.

Well I know he says everything else is easy but that is because he is a pro and a optimistic guy. But really if I remember correctly the worst part is braking those bolts loose on the stock manifold. Some come easy, most dont. These cars have a tight working space and even more so around the headers. Like he said be sure to have plenty of PB blaster and paitence. Oh yeah and extra skin on hands, better yet get gloves.

You have to get the front of the car really high up. Another tip is if you need to change the plugs do that while you are in there. Really easy.

Let me know how this install goes. I am looking at these.

its not that its hard... its just very time consuming and bloody. A lot of swearing and a lot of beer and you will get it. I'm no mechanic and after helping out on my cars header install, i think I could do it myself next time around. Though motor mounts are another story. Having the right tools helps a lot, u most likely will need to cut the old y-pipe bolts off.

Get some GOOD header bolts.. not the crappy ones that most companies send you. and some GM Metal Gaskets. DO NOT use paper gaskets! Take the bolt outs slowly, be patient, careful not to strip the threads. Same for putting in the new bolts.

yeah, give yourself plenty of time, get the car as high as you safely can, and be patient. its a pretty basic job, but just like everyone said there is no space to work with and you will bust up your knuckles. be VERY careful with the header bolts, its not worth stripping them to rush.

its not that hard of a job, IMO its best to spray all the rusty bolts down the day before, get em nice and soaked, i sprayed mine, a week before (long story), the day before, then a little extra the day of, every single bolt came out fine. O, and do yourself a favor, do the passenger side first, because its much harder then the drivers side. if you do the pass side first, the drivers side will seem like cake. i installed the bbk headers on mine too, and for the passenger header i think i was up to 5-6 clicks on the jackstand, with two 1" boards under it.

Yea I'd say the hardest part was breaking the bolts loose. It's pretty easy when you have an impact gun though. Other than that the only thing I've had to do on header install is beat the floor board in on mine so I could get the driver side in.

It's not that much of a crazy job, but make sure you have everything you need.. Prepare a list for yourself. I used this, not as a guide, but as a good ref.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED/WANT. (spark plugs, poly's, a y-pipe, etc.)
