^^Someone's been busy.
Johnny, good to finally meet you. Thanks for going out of your way for a stranger. Good luck getting your car running. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out.

I got mine back on the road also. First trip was the ritual liquor store run two miles away
then I ran about 10 miles to Home Depot another day. Doesn't seem to be eating coolant anymore and no steam out of the tail pipes. I'm wanting to go through the tune some and make sure its good since I put a different set of heads back on. Just need the time to do it.
I have a feeling Matt is chasing his first 11 sec pass, and TA Chris is shooting for deep in the 10s![Nod](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_nod.gif)
I'm hoping to run 10s NA full weight and stock wheels/minimal suspension my next trip out. We'll see how that goes.......

I've been 11.9 at 120 with no stall, street tires, and timing retard from a bad knock sensor. With the SS3600, new KSs, and some borrowed slicks, I should be very low 11s... If the rear holds under a boost launch. I think the 2.73s will keep it a little safe. I'm gonna try to get out there in the next week or so.

Didn't know you had clicked off an 11 on street tires. That's pretty impressive with the mods that were on the car. I realize boost cars don't really like gear, but I'm pretty sure there is a freshly built Motive Gear'd 3.42 rear end floating around town somewhere that just needs a posi. You might could pick it up cheap, swap in your good posi, then swap complete rears. Might help you out some to have a little more gear and would be pretty cheap. Or you could just buy the thick cut Motive 3.42 and swap it in your housing (requiring another rebuild kit to freshen everything up). All could be done relatively cheap.

For those of you who have ever been paid to do mechanic work OR work in the service industry where you deal with customers:

I trust Todd. I daily drive it with a heavy foot and haven't had an issue yet. My biggest worry really is summer time with no IC or meth. It did make through the 108 degree days last year, though. When it breaks, I'll make it stronger. Trans, rear, motor, etc. Hopefully she'll continue strong for a while.

Well, it looks like im going to do my first header install soon here. I'm assuming ill just find a write up on here and follow it without too many problems. I've got access to a garage right now and i've usually been able to do most everything with my craftsman tool set at hand. Any suggestions from yall to make things go smoother? I believe the previous owner already had poly mm and tm put in but im going to check the reciepts, is there an easy way to tell? Also would they need replacing again here? Thanks guys!
Edit: Also looking to get into the 12 sec soon here, any suggestions? I've been working on my launches a lot but its so much different on the street it seems. Maybe it was just because of my first time out or not being able to go around the water box. my 60' was horrible i can show the slips. Street launches are solid though i can drop it around 2k and not slip but i've been trying to get good at slipping instead because i was trying that at the track and it didn't work at all.

The track is very humbling, ask anyone who goes frequently especially in a car they don't have a lot of seat time in (track-wise). On the street playing around it's all fun and games, at the track every 1/10 of a second counts. It leaves little room for error. We all start at that point, and gain experience from there. Keep gaining seat time and you'll see improvements every time you go out. I've seen auto cars that hook fluctuate 60ft times as much as .2. I could imagine how hard a 6 speed is to be consistent. There are a bunch of guys here that have the experience to help you pick the right parts and technique to launch your manual car effectively. I unfortunately am not one of them

Yeah no kidding, I thought I was a decent driver till I went out. Almost made me wish I got an a4 instead. It didn't help being right beside 10 second cars either
reminds me of the first time I went out to a motocross track. Humbling indeed.

Well after many months and getting screwed on my 1st trans i bought im just about ready to fire it up again. Just put in a th400 with a brake and ultrabell, umi conversion crossmember, a yank eliminator 3600, moved the trans cooler to the back under the trunk and added a spal fan with a housing built by me. Added a moser 9", alum center, 35 spline axles with a wavetrac, a b&m pro ratchet shifter which is probably one of my favorite mods. Got a pst 3.5" alum drive shaft with 1350 yoke, havent put that on yet tho. Ran braided cooler lines to the cooler. Threw a set of drag bags in while the rear was out. Think thats about it

Getting an M6 to run the numbers at the track is a challenge and takes some seat time and practice. Some guys can slip the clutch really well. I'm not that good at slipping it but do ok. It really puts a lot of extra wear on the clutch which will cost money, so I don't do it too much. I do more of a light launch with minimal slip and once the car is rolling I'm off the clutch and hammering the gas at the same time. Drag radials help, but if you really wanna give it hell, then a good rear (preferably a 9") and some dot slicks or all out slicks will do it for ya.
My launch technique has slightly changed since I'm using a more stockish clutch. I usually let out til you feel it grab (car will slightly move) then back off just a tad. Then a I rev to around 2500. When I get ready to go, I roll on the throttle while letting the clutch pedal out just enough to get it rolling. Then at the same time, I smash the gas while dumping the pedal.
When I was on a 9" with a Spec 3 clutch, I had the clutch right where it was bout to grab and rev to about 6k-6200 and when I launched, I smashed the gas while dumping the clutch. 1.5 60's all day.
Above all it takes seat time and practice. The street is good for getting practice at rowing gears, but the launch changes completely between the street and track.

I remember I accidentally did a dump to the limiter one time in that old black LT1 because the clutch was so heavy. My leg got sore driving it to work all the time. I'd hate to have to figure that out at the track.
A4 FTW.
