Default HSW bottle valve very tight....

im trying to change out my valve on my hsw 10# tank to put in my new one for the nano. ive got a bit crescent wrench for the valve. i got my roomate holding the bottle and we are not strong enough to break it loose so, i didnt think a vice was a good idea, and my filter wrench is not quite big enough to go around the cylinder. so what do i do here?

Take and stradle the bottle. Take the cresent and pop it with a hammer to spin it loose..

Another option is to take a hammer and hit the bottle nut to spin the valve loose. It will ruin the bottle nut but not the valve.

Make sure you are turning it the correct way.

It should not be that tight Unless the threads are messed up. If you can not get it I would send it back to HSW and have them change the valves out for you.

Here's a few options:

1. Grow a sack!
2. Try putting it in your bottle bracket and then break it loose.
3. Take it to a Scuba shop and have them swap it for you. They have a special vice / bottle holder.

Is there any type of torqu rating that it should be tightened to? I've got two NX bottles and one Dynotune bottle and all of the valves were able to be removed literally by hand I went ahead and tightened them down with a big wrench.

yeah, i put my billet bracket on it and tried it with a hammer. the bottle moves in the bracket. maybe it is fucked up. i hit the blowoff nipple and broke it off in the valve. yay. i might try the scuba shop down the street.

You will be fine just poping them tight. Use a wrench and a hammer.

do you think i will be able to use an easy-out to get that piece of the blow-off valve out of the valve housing? if not, that valve is useless, but thats life...

Its possible. Just make sure everything is ok. That is an important safety feature.

They are torqued down to 100 ft-lbs. The hardest part is going to be holding the bottle in a single position without it rotating. Also finding the right wrench to turn it can be difficult too..some of the cresent wrenches are too fat to fit onto the valve. We use a special slide style wrench which is about 18" long which is designed to clinch tighter around the valve as you're turning.

I would suggest taking it down the street to the scuba shop or if there is a welding store that valves bottles, they can do it too. If you have any problems let me know and we can arrange for you to send it back to have the valve removed. Thanks!

Thanks Dave and Nick, you both have been very helpful to me throughout my nitrous endeavers. I really appreciate it. I will take it down to airgas or the scuba shop down there and see if they can do it. hopefully i can get those broken threads out of there.
