what is it about nitrous the makes it break stuff?
When you are making a serious amount of power, you read EGT's and/or plugs themselves. They dont lie!
How can you tell someone to take out 4* of timing for every 50hp if you don't even know what cylinder head, valve angle, compression ratio, camshaft timing, quench, etc...? Who ever came up with the equation for taking a certain amount of timing out per 50hp should be slapped. Every engine is not the same, and does not take the same formula. Contrary to popular belief, nitrous also does not need more fuel. If you are tuning nitrous by reading the a/f ratio, you are pissing up a rope. A/F ratio is meaningless with nitrous. The N/F ratio is what matters. The only way to correctly tune nitrous is reading the plugs. Smaller single systems are typically not as critical. You will always burn a piston from being rich and/or over timed before you will from being lean. I personally can't say I have ever seen a piston that was burnt from a lean condition. Every one I've seen have either been melted from too much timing, or had lifted ring lands from too much fuel, just to name a few scenarios. They all typically result from over timed, or overly rich.
The more I read into nitrous tuning, the more I uncover that I once thought was the way to go, was completley bad and not sure how i got lucky enough to keep the motor alive.
80% of the crap you read on this board about nitrous tuning is wrong. I only listen to a select amount of people here now. and am learning as time goes on what i need to do to tune my motor the best. Im doing all the nitrous tuning myself and letting my tuner only mess with the n/a stuff. dont trust anybody but myself around here.

Yeah there is a lot of bad information floating around here. There are only a few people in here I listen to just for that reason.
Every setup is different... There is no one size fits all setup! Tune by the plugs. Run the correct plugs! Run the right fuel. You may get away with a bad tune on a baby shot but when you step up to a healthy dose you will burn **** up on a bad tune.

Well you explain to me what you would do. ??? I run wot 28* of timing NA ,and 18* on nitrous wot. And you gap your plugs on nitrous above .038" ? and run hotter plugs than stock ? And you run platinum plugs ? I know that you can run Iridium plugs. And if your nitrous pressure drops you wont go rich with your fuel pressure staying the same threw out the run. And my fuel to air set at 11.8 on nitrous and 12.8 NA. Ive been running nitrous for over 15 years and never and the first problem with it. And plus i said PULL (take out timing) not add timing, The Cometic head gaskets has a stainless steel core and so are the stock MLS

re read your post. first off .035 to .308 is to blanket . 2nd noone needs to oring a block. we hit mine with 550 on a 4 bolt 6.0 block and never pushed an once of water. to much timming is why you push water. the a/f will be between 12.5 and 13.3 if its right or for the most part on an ls1 but thats even to blanket.
your post was garbage period. You have been doing it wrong for 15 years if thats what you do. and lean doesn't burn up stuff to much timming burns up stuff. but what do i know
Well, 99 out of 100 of us dont have the time nor money to be sitting on a dyno to find all this out and pull plugs...
My wideband has helped me out alot in tuning for N/A (~13.0) , then I just throw in the recommended nozzles and hit the ~12.0 range and pull some timing and call it a day. You follow a few "general" rules and it help you spray safe.
Ive went lean pretty bad one time and thought I got off the gas pretty quick, when I got back and pulled plugs 4 out of the 8 had no ends left.. Im sure if I wouldnt of had the wideband in and saw it when I did it could have went alot worse. So, I dont think your statement of A/F on nitrous is accurate.

Running 100 octane, had 5* pulled via timing tuner.. ran 175 shot when later I found out that my fuel system was tapped out at 80 shot. I went lean. On top of that my NANO bottle went to ~1500psi due to the regualtor was fucked up on the fill up. Call it what you want, I changed plugs and ran ET below next time out.
I would also imagine your block is built for spray... So, you have a bigger window for error.

if you were at 24* on a 175 shot you are wrong. its just ag uess but the heads would have to be pretty shitty to need that much timming. id guess 20* would be faster and put the a/f around 12.8 since you love the wideband but id pull the plugs and go from there.
so having too much timing causes detonation right?
looking back I am more thinking it was just the 150 shot. So, if everyone is praying the 2* per 50hp then I was only off 1* obviously.
What I read says "I cant disagree with you on your theory."
Key word being CANT.
I posted that to help guys like you, noone on this website can help us with our tune up but I dont mind giving advice to guys who dont know as much about nitrous.
You go with what you think is right and you can learn the hard way like most of us have.
Key word being CANT.

Ive learned 90% of what I have learned from here, rather it be N20 or putting everything together. This is the 1st car I have ever raced and after a few times, I couldn't stop and pretty much everything I have read on here, has got me to where I am today.. .. I am not hear to bash anyone. I see that there is more then one way to skin a cat when it comes to N20 I suppose. I read and make changes at the track and see what works best.
All depends on .... Fuel, plugs, cam, head and finally shot size.
Change any 1 of those things and your timing needs will change.
What timing would you use for a 300 shot on pump gas?
28* on motor then -12* for your 2per 50hp = 16* wouldnt make it to the 1/8mile I bet. See how that works.
Im here to learn as well, I know I don't have much time under my belt with spray. I was just reading over how they disagreed and thought it was funny what you said.

Read the post again 2* per 50hp is a joke.
