Default To TR6, or not to TR6?

So Ive just installed a NOS Power Shot solenoid and a .42 jet onto my 99FORMULA with PP 85/85 setup, Lid, full exhaust, smooth bellow, Lid, and 4000 stall. Should get about a 75shot out of it no? Well I was wondering wether I should go with an NGK TR6 plug or not. If I do what should I gap them at? How much timing should I pull? Im running NGK TR55s right now. Someone help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

The TR6 isnt exactly a nitrous plug but should do you good for a 75hp shot. Gap around .032-.035 and I would watch A/F ratio, injector duty cycle and fuel pressure if any are possible.

Yes, spend the $16 and get TR6's. They should work fine for your application.

I thought the Tr6's were supposed to be a tried and true nitrous plug. Now, I know they're not specifically made for nitrous use, but am I missing something here?

They're too god damn hot for anything more then a 100 shot on a STOCK car. Got a cam and nitrous, too hot.

Anything done to add compression and nitrous, too hot, even a 100 shot.

One of the most annoying things I see on here is people thinking this plug is o.k. for nitrous use. with very low power/mild setups you can GET AWAY with them, but that's about it.

Any real kind of power, and that plug will keep the piston companies, and motor builders happy and in business making $.

There's a reason none of the engine builders ever come in here telling you not to run that plug with nitrous, because they like rebuilding motors, asn as long as people keep spraying on Tr6 plugs, they're busy!

Ive been spraying 150 shot for over a year on tr6 plugs...are you saying I need to switch to something colder for a 150 shot?

You can do what you want, but IMO it's not safe. #7 would be a safe plug that's going to keep things alive alot longer.

I ran these plugs in a 402 for two years. The same 8 TR6's for two years. They worked just fine for me.

Very well said and after doing some research into the topic I couldn't agree w/ you more. If that's the case, then the following should probably be removed from the "Everything Nitrous Related" sticky....
Q: Will I have to change my ignition system?
A: Most late model ignition systems are well suited for nitrous applications. NGK TR-6 plugs are recommended.
Also came across a similar thread w/ some good info... https://ls1tech.com/forums/nitrous-o...projected.html

And another... http://www.dragstuff.com/techarticle...-pictures.html

And of course there's always the plug chart... https://ls1tech.com/forums/8499298-post7.html

Nitrous (two steps colder)
Heat Range: 7
Gap: Consult
Plug: NGK BR7EF (stock number 3346); NGK TR7IX (stock number 3690); Autolite AR94; Denso IT22 (stock number 5327)

Should be able to order them from any local autopart store or get them from some of the sponsors of this site.

In my experience, I would have to agree with this statement. I have found that if you have done something to increase compression or change cylinder pressure (i.e. milling cylinder heads, nitrous, etc.), then its time to look at using a colder plug. It is always better to use a slightly colder plug, than one that is slightly too hot.

Nimitz, #7 will probably be right, but for the sake of being safe I'd put a #8 for teh first track run and see what they look like afterwards.

My 13.5 to 1 motor likes a #8 on motor in the heat, fall/early spring a #7 was o.k., middle of the summer I'd get a little bit more of a heat mark, so I swapped to a #8. Never went any faster or slower, just did it to be safe.
