Default 150 shot on TR55 plugs

A friend of mine sprayed his car with a 150 shot with TR55 plugs. He had it tuned so timing had been pulled(cuz he was spraying a 100 shot) but he decided to go for it and sprayed that big of a shot on those plugs twice only. What kinda damage could this moron have caused to his motor?

I guess he got lucky if it didnt backfire or blow. Just tell him to go to a #7 plug or a 8 to be safe. Friends dont let friends blow up motors.

It will eat the tips off the plugs very soon, it will only be a matter of time.

The motor should be fine if it didnt blow on the passes then your fine. I would pull all the plugs and double check them that will tell you more.

Yeah I told him to replace them with new ones and if he wants to spray 150, upgrade to the TR6's at least.

TR6's & 7's used to be our only choices & they are much better than 55's. They may protrude, but they are colder. BR's are better for spraying, but there have been many car's that have gone many thousands of miles & run 9 second quarters on TR6's.

Tell him to pull the plugs to make sure all of his ground straps are still intact.

So does that mean they are the correct plug because some have done it? nope. If you are buying brand new plugs the only logical choice would be to go with the Br6 or Br7.

Key words "used to" there are many options now for him. I don't care if you stuck a glow plug in your motor back then, this is now and he has a better option. Tr6's can be used but is that the correct plug? Br7ef and be done with it.

Your friend is very lucky that something bad didn't happen when he hit it. Thats way to hot of a plug to hit nitrous on and be safe. If he is looking at getting some new ones i'd suggest the BR7EF ( Stock# 3346 ).

I'm in no way advocating the use of TR6's, just stating that we used to have no other choice but the TR's & they did their job. Technologies change & 5 years from now people may be jumping on people's asses for spraying on BR's, because by then someone may have found some better koolaid when it comes to nitrous plugs.

You make "Back Then" sound like 35 years ago, when we are talking 4-5 years or less.

I'm not here to argue any point, just stating that as this stuff matures the way we use nitrous changes. I'm not saying that they weren't available, but they weren't in use, back then TR6,7&8's were the plug of choice until just a few years ago.

Hell, I'm running BR9EFS's on one of my cars. I would never run TR's in that car.
