Default stock pistons and a 200 shot?

do you think stock pistons could handle a 200 shot? this is my dd and i want it to be reliable. i was thinkin about buyin some forged pistons but they are kind of out of the price range. so would stock be ok?

You could get away with spraying 200 on them if you have a safe tune up but if it's your daily driver then you might want to keep it at 150 or less. You can get away with a lot less accurate tune up on 150 than you can 200 on the stock stuff.

I shot 200 on mine but it was not a dd. It didn't hurt the pistons but it detonated (not enough timing pulled) and killed the bearings. Just do like ATV said, keep it at a 150.

I would have to go with Baked on this one sir. While with a good tuneup they can be safe the tuning window is smaller for sure on that shot. If you cant afford pistons, im sure you cant afford to rebuild you DD. I always lean toward safety.

If you do need a hand with any of your tune ups im always happy to help out.

It's all in the tune assuming the motor is mechanically sound.

I've done 250 on the stock pistons. Reliable it ain't....

Realize that when you start modifying vehicles and/or driving them hard they can and will break. If you can't accept the fact that you could break your car then you should keep things on the mild side.

As stated before, if your budget and reliability are concerns, I'd stay away from a 200 shot. Sure you could probably get away with it for a while with the right tune, however it sounds like you would be in a tough spot if things went awry.

100 is a relatively safe hit considering your supporting mods. 150 should start to push you to the edge of the limits of the stock bottom end. I'm right there with you and opted for a 150 shot for a couple bottles and then cut back to a 100 shot for playing around on the street. Little more conservative and given that traction was already a limitation it wasn't much of a sacrafice.

I put 440lbs of N2o through my SI 1998 Trans/Am in one summer and when I tore it down it looked great. I put 200lbs of it through the engine the year before that. The first year was 75-100 shots all 440lbs of the last year it was running like that was 150+ shots. I was full aware it could pop at anytime though....

I wacked a stock shortblock LQ9 with about 300lbs of N2O over one summer at 200+ shots. It finally had a catastrophic failure when the owner of the vehicle ran it wide open on the gun for 20sec with the 200 jets in it. Broken rod sawed the block in half and pieces of #7 piston where in every other cylinder.. The small end of the rod came through the pan with enough for to go straight through the front crossmember..

I was very thorough with the tunes.I made sure they always had good quality fuel and were in great working order.
