Default Newbie nitrous questions

I have an lq9 with bolt ons installed in my 98 camaro a4. wanted to start off with a 75 shot and have room to go up to a 150 shot. I know I need a basic kit, window switch, bottle heater. What else do I need? Also do I need tuning for a 75 shot? Is mail order tuning ok for nitrous?

Get a kit from one of our sponsors that is a plate kit that corresponds with the opening of your intake (78mm,90mm,etc). Don't get a nozzle setup, it is pain in the *** and the plate is a cleaner install. As far as tuning all you need is to pull timing when spraying. This can be acheived with a lingenfelter timing box or the timing twister. You can also pull timing with the tune from your tuner but then you are stuck with that timing setting which means if you want to up the shot you have to go back to him to adjust timing accordingly. With a timing box, you adjust it yourself. Mail order tuning is a no no. I would only do a mail order tune to get my car running with a base tune if I built a wild *** setup or if I had no other choice. I would go to a dyno to tune.

Ok, so basically get a timing tuner so I can tune myself. Use a plate instead of nozzles. Do I need to upgrade my fuel pump?

If the vehicle has been tuned then you will need to get a retune for the nitrous. If the car is running the stock tune then you should be able to hit it with 75hp with no problems. With no heads/cam you should be ok with the factory pump but i would look at it this way....If the pump has never been replaced then you are looking at a 12yr old pump and i would upgrade up it.

Are you wanting a plate or nozzle style of system?

I can run either it doesn't really matter at the moment. I have a stock tune, will a timing box work for 100hp + hits? Also, what max shot can I run before upgrading the fuel pump, (i know a pump is cheap it's just a PITA to replace it)?

The factory fuel pumps tend to go south around the 450-480rwhp mark. The unit that i'd suggest to get for timing is the lingenfelter unit for $275. It's IMO the best one out on the market. It will allow you to pull out up to 15* of timing.

Can I use the lingenfelter unit in place of tuning?

as far as the timing side of tuning you could but the lingenfelter unit cannot add or subtract fueling as a tune would do.
