Default Using Teflon tape or paste on fittings

We were having issues with a small fuel leak and I decided to go with Tape. Did I make the right choice?

yes you did. I work in the Oil Fields of south texas and I HATE the paste. if you know how to apply it with out getting any tape on the opening your good to go. I've used tape in all of my nitrous installs and have had no problems at all. I even used it on my direct port fogger nozzles.

Once again everyone jumps on the bandwagon....

I've used the tape and started 2-3 threads from the end and they work great. I've also used red loctite gel and that works even better.

I use allot of both at work and I like the tape best! if you dont go crazy with it or have threads that go into the pipe or cavity there is almost 0 chance of having issues.

Never. Ever. Use the tape. On a pipe fitting you can use a dot of red loctite. On a AN fitting there should be a need to add anything. It has a tapered mounting surface on the end to prevent this from leaking.

The orifice on a jet is very small, doesnt take much to obstruct it and their is no reason to take a chance on it when you dont need to.

Thanks guys. We didnt go crazy, we had to use alittle tape on the fitting for my Autometer FP sensor. We could not get it to stop sweating. All good now. I feel better that I am not the only one who has resorted to this method. Thanks everyone.

I dont think one single N2o manufacturer would recommend tape. Red loc tite or paste and only on non tapered fittings

Paste sucks, I tried using it but it never worked. I'll never use it again, PERIOD. Looks like I'll be using some red loctite instead.

You will not find tape in any of my installs or assembled products. I rarely use paste either. Mostly loc-tite...

If you guys only knew how many times I seen some old schooler complaining about his solenoid sticking open. I ask them if they use tape, they say yep been using it all my life, I tell them there is tape in the solenoid, they say BS been using it all my life and I know how to apply it, so I take the solenoid apart and rub the tape off the piston with my finger and put it in the palm of thier hand.., and they say well Ill be damn...

Worked great all their lifes.. Guess one 10,000 dollar motor over all those years was a small price to pay huh?

Why take the chance?

Dave
