Default Worried!

Im about to use nitrous on my vette. Im just a little aprehensive I guess. I hear the horror stories about blown motors and fires etc. Is there any advice before I pull the trigger on it? If all goes well the kit should be ready to fire this weekend.

I just installed it on mine. I was scared to pull the trigger too. It's really not the explosive force you think it will be. I just hit mine with a 150 shot and I'm ready to go more.

If your tune is right and you use all the safety measures talked about on this site it's really not a big deal. 3000RPM and above and don't lug the car and you shouldn't have to worry about backfires.

I'm not ready to run it out of the hole at the track but on a roll I'm not worried at all.

I am gonna spray probably around 3200. Im gonna race it outta the hole at the track but I dont hit 3k right away so Im not sure how quick its gonna come in. A backfire is my main concern. I think Im gonna install a fire extinguisher for my peace of mind.

As mentioned above, make sure you have all the safety features and you've basically done your part. The added security of an extinguisher is also a good move, I have one also.

few features: fpss, window switch, wot switch, correct heat range plug, nitrous filter, blow down tube etc..

I need to get my blow down tube done next time I get my bottle filled. I didnt know you had to install the fitting before filling so I screwed it up. Ill just have to watch my pressures closely until the bottle runs out.

What fpss is everyone running?

You must have an auto tranny. If you had a 6 speed you would be launching 4000-4500RPM.

You'll be fine man. First time spraying is nerve racking, but you'll forget all about it after you feel the intial hit.

Lol...I remember my first time pulling the trigger and arming the switch. I literally drove my car for 3 days with my nitrous system ready to go and I couldnt not do it. I would arm the system, then say " I'm scared", then disarm the system and not even use it. This would happen over and over again for 3 days straight until one time I just said F*** it and pushed the petal to the medal with the arming system on and nitrous flowing into the engine. I smiled like a little kid on my birthday.

When I did my first N2o set up I was sprayin it out of the driveway. But for some reason I keep coming up with reasons to not spray the current set up even though its 10x the system safety wise.

Make sure to test everything before you first try it to make sure it all works. Make sure you have the correct plug in the car gapped correctly too. Make sure your bottle is on and from there let her eat. It will be fun i promise!!!!!

I think the only thing you really have to be afraid of is a nitrous/fuel back fire. If you have all the appropriate safety measures in place, you won't have an issue actually running the car in normal conditions. If a selenoid fails or starts leaking though and you pool fuel in the manifold and it ignites, then you have an issue.

How often does fuel pooling/backfires occur on wet plate kits spraying in the 100hp range?

Hopefully not often, because I'll be running that same setup w/ nitrous outlet selenoids and plate.

Just get the right plugs, Gapped them like Chris said. Set the rpm switch at 3k and go.
The only time you have pooling is when you try and spray below 3k also set you tps at 3/4 throttle so you have to be well into it before it engauges.

Pooling is my big concern. I set the switch to 3200 and the throttle voltage to 1.2 because mine is less than 1 volt at WOT I may even change it to 1.1 just to be on the safe side.

I have the zex NMU for soleniod so hopefully it doesnt bypass or leak. It is set up below the plate so gravity should be at work here. That way if it does leak hopefully the fuel will clear out when it opens up before the system fires. Thats just my theory though I dont know if that would actually work.

If it leaks it'll be under pressure from the fuel system and will likely push it up into the manifold even if the selenoid is mounted below.

No worries. Keep an open mind and listen to what everyone here tells you and helps you with and you should be fine... along with the right plug, tune, etc. You'll be surprised how safe it actually is. By then you'll wonder why you waited so long and be looking for bigger jets
