First Ever Outlaw 8.5 Final
Well we attended our first heads up event ever with this car at WCHRA. We entered the Outlaw 8.5 class which uses a 26x8.5x15 max slick. We run the hoosier. Its also all 1/8 mile.
Its a quick class and we were way underpowered and overweight can weigh 3100 lbs and we weighed 3330 lbs. But we were out there to have fun. Mounted the tires the prior night and the first qualifying session was the first time ever down the track on them.
After qualifying we sat 6 out of 8 cars. We ran a 6.36 in qualifying and #1 was a 5.35.
We made some changes over the night and the tires were finally coming around after 3 passes. Race day and well all weekend we were in 3500 foot da and 130 degree track temps. It wasnt easy. Well we went down the track in 1st round and the semis and my way quicker opponets spun the tire and couldnt catch us.
We made it to the finals against the number one qualifier, and thought maybe luck would help us again. Nope he went right down the track 5.35 to our 6.16. We got Runner up and some money in our pockets!
Overall it was a great weekend went, 1.38 sixty foot on the baby tire 6.16 113 in the finals. Cant wait to get back to our home track and it will def. go 5.90 something on this tuneup.

Congrats Cam, very good results for the first time on that tire. Dang it, that tire just looks funny after seeing your car with the 28x10.5s for so long. It kind of looks lost back there, LOL.

Looks like a narrower wheel might have helped offer some more traction on such a tiny tire. The current wheel looks to have the tire streched.
Awesome times and congrats on the 2nd place.

Gotcha. Seems counterproductive but sometimes on paper doesn't work in the real world. Again awesome job not the only problem is the bar is set high. If you don't win next time it will be time to sell the car and quit racing all together(just kidding).

How much air did you have in the tires, I've played with a set of the m/t ones on a couple cars, including my own back a couple years ago and found that they liked around 15 to 16 lbs, and these had tubes in them also.
I think that a double adjustable shock with that little tire is a must, because of the air you have to run in them to stop the rim from hitting the track, you get alot more bounce from them then you'd think, and the shocks needs to be really stiff to control it right. I might be totally wrong on that but that was the feeling I had (and with my qa1's almost ALL the way tight and needing alot more, it's probably not too far off)
Something to try.
Get the 200 lbs out of the car, that's gonna help alot I bet too.

Id say they work! haha. But we had them at 12 most of the weekend. Stiff on compression and soft on rebound. on 130 degree track temps that was the only way to get it down the track. We will adjust rebound when we get back to a better track. Probably can run more tire pressure too.
200lbs is $$$ so it will take a little bit, but we should have that out come next season.
