I would like to put my '99 SS into the high 9's with a plate style system. Here's what I have and have run thus far:
1999 Camaro SS, some minor weight reduction (K member, A arms, BS street lites, spare and jack, Up front I have strange drag shocks and aerospace brakes, grant wheel, no cage, fiberglass hood, ABS block delete, TCS delete, etc.
The rest of the car is all there and will stay that way. I could gut it and get there, but my car is 100% street car. I carry my son in there, I want my A/C, and my stock seats. I may go to a set kirkeys depending on how well my hip heals. For now I gotta use stockers.
Strange S60, 3.73, auburn posi, tubular adj control arms and PHB, UMI sway bar (the big drag bar), stock brakes, HD steel DS, etc. Performabuilt stage 2 4L60E, 3600 stall.
The motor is a H/C with all the basic bolt ons like long tubes, and all the other essentials. MS3 cam, stage 2.5 heads to work with the cam w/o piston notching.
I like some decent driveability, hence the reason I want to continue to spray it. I have a Nitro Daves 78 mm plate (LS6 intake) tuned for a 125 shot off the rail. I figure for the weight my racetronix pump won't keep up. I think my injectors will be ok at 42#.
I think to reliably do this a new shortblock will be needed.
The car has been 10.5 per the previous owner, with my lighter buddy at the wheel it went 6.86, no 1/4 times yet.
I figure to simplify the fuel system I'd do a stand alone for the spray, with some higher octane perhaps.
What is the best way to achieve my goal? Big inch ls1 block? Ls2? Iron block? Figure a 3500 lb raceweight. I'd like to go 10's on nuts, then around 9.80 on the squeeze. I don't want to run directport, and for the most part 93 octane is what I'll have to run. I also want to keep the 4L60E, but I do plan to add a transbrake.
I'm working on a limited budget, other wise I'd just pill it death, but I can sell that motor to help pay for the new one.
Thanks for your wisdom!

I say spend the money on a forged shortblock built for the spray. If you are deadset on keepin the plate kit up the shot to 200. Maybe run a standalone for safety measure. In my opininon you have everything else set to get you there. If you are runnin 6.80's thats like a 10.60=.70
Honestly if you can go a 10.5 on 125 shot I think it will go 9s with a 200 hit off the rail. Takes alot of research and a safe tune with the stock short block. I am hitting mine right now with 200 on all stock engine parts except for the cam off the rail. A little more weight reduction will help aslo, I'm talking about things you can just unbolt for a few passes then bolt back in etc... No cutting.

I haven't personally run 10.50, the previous owner did (I have no reason to doubt him). I have gone 6.8x in the 1/8th on the 125 shot, which would be about a mid-upper 10.xx. I really don't know about a 200 shot off the rail and on the stock bottom end....sounds like a time bomb. How much can the stock fuel system realistically support? I'm afraid of fp dropping on the hit and nuking the whole motor.
COme on Sam, put the 200 shot on it and let er rip. That will definitely be a 9xx pass. That car will take it, believe me I have seen that car in action
You need to just do that and have fun with her. make a few passes before the year is over and then maybe pull the motor for next year. But lets make a 9 sec pass b4 the year is up

With a dedicated fuel cell. Or put two walbros in your tank and y them together. then right tune and up the shot you should hit 9s easy if you get the suspension to work and the converter wont blow through.
