Default Are there any downsides of NANO?

So I am strongly considering switching to a NANO setup. I will be spraying 150 to 200 through a Nitrous Outlet plate.

I have done a lot of searching on this, and really most things seem positive. The only bad thing I have read that I could not get a lot of info on is heat.

So what is the problem with heat? Let's say my bottle is in my car and the bottle pressure starts rising and gets to 1200 or so PSI. Couldn't you just purge the system down, or am I missing something?

Brad sends a chiller blanket with it now. But other then that, just getting them filled is a hassle unless you live near a paintball field

With NANO, there are gains to be had from icing a nitrous bottle and then having it hooked up to the push system to make pressure. This allows the nitrous to be much cooler and still be at pressure.

We have seen pretty decent gains on the dyno from "freezing" a nitrous bottle and then quickly hooking it to a push system vs a full bottle and a heater at the same psi.

It does hit alot harder when the bottle is cold, so make sure the fuel jetting is correct.

A bag(s) of ice will also work for those without the chiller blanket. I keep my nitrous bottle in the basement during summer months, or hot days.

only downside I ever had was another bottle to fill. Not a huge downside in my opinion. The system plain out works. Look at what my cars runs.

Dang, I wish I got a chiller blanket

I am going to try to use a peltier unit with heatsink to actively cool my nitrous bottle and I also have a 220mm fan that I will setup to blow air on the bottle to cool everything down.

Not sure how well the peltier will work, haven't really made any headway with it, but we'll see.

Thank you. My next step is to start calling around to see how much refill costs on the nano cost.

How much are you guys paying for a refill?

We have seen anything from free to $10 per fill.

btw the system works. i picked up a toooon of torque and about 20rwhp on the nano. only issue i have is getting it filled locally can be a hassle. there may be more places around you. most around me can only go to 3000. and i run a 200 shot so my bottle only lasts a few passes so after that im done since i only have one nano bottle.

I guess the downside is finding a place to fill it. I called a few places today. Found one place that could fill 3000 psi, thats it. I want 4500 psi.

Are you an overclocker? I worry that a peltier is basically not powerful enough, it may not do much, but try it.
I have been thinking of ways to apply overclocking cooling techniques (assuming that is also the origin of this idea for you) to cars too. I think a phase change unit would be crazy, or an LN2 pot, that would add almost no weight, as opposed to the phase unit, but the former could run 24/7, the latter would only be good for drag passes. Should be easy to make a chiller with an Igloo cooler) or a nice fabricated insulated box), with dry ice in it, a fan in the cooler, a submersible pump, with a heat exchanger in the cooler, and run plumbing to the outside of the bottle somehow, you'd want a lot of surface area contacting the bottle (and run water with isopropyl in it, or acetone, these can go pretty cold and still flow). An A/C unit can also be adapted into a chiller, there's an OEM Ford system like this.
