I say it can be done but not easily.

My 396 with a 24 jet in the fogger.
We had it softened way up in the 60' to make sure it got down the track.
If we wre pushing it hard in the 60' and had a little more jet 8.5's would be doable for sure.
Same day it went ....

On motor !
RPM and Conrad posted on YB that hey have done it already.
I know we could have also.
60' - 1.28
1/8 ET - 5.44
1/8 mph - 132
1/4 mph - 164.2
1/4 ET - 8.51
It has also gone a 8.47 also in a little better air.
This was done on a single stage direct port, 3360 lbs, on a .026 jet or around 225hp tuneup.
I ran the car mostly on either a .026 or a .028 jet last year as I was running alot of 8.50 CAP classes near me.

Our old 396 went 5.38 on a 28 jet @ 3200lbs.
Never ran it thru the 1/4 on those jets.
Shoot me a PM I'll ship it next week, 10500 to your door.
Conclusion. If my little motor can run ^^^that^^^... Then a purpose built 420" nitrous motor with a 250 shot can run a 8.50 in a 3200 lb car... Not a problem, in my opinion.
