Need your opinion (real life experiences preferred)
I use my car 95% track and I'm getting a new rear end. It has been a long time since I've seen this asked and I'm now hoping that someone has real life experiences. What gear would be better when using a 100-150 shot of nitrous 3:73 or 4:10? I read at one time if you use 410's you have to shift like crazy. I'm not sure what size tire I'll be using but if all works out they at least will be slicks. (Note: cam in sig.)

Hmmmm......well it depends mostly on what trap speed your shooting for......and what tire hieght your going to use......and what rpm you make maximum power....ie if you have heads cam etc....
Generally speaking.....given the choice of 3.73's or 4.10's I would go with the 3.73's with out a second thought.....
because you will get more from the nos if you let it do the work.....Lower rpm gives more valve open time to inject nos......3000 rpm has twice the time to fill the cylinder then 6000 rpm.....and with 4.10's your effectively raising the average rpm at which the engine will operate.....the 3000/6000 thing is just an example......
Anyways if you use 3.73's you will drop to a lower rpm upon gear changes and make more effective power / torque becuase the nos you are injecting is actually more because you have more time to get it in there......this is regardless of jet size....
Thats why you can make huge torque numbers real low in rpm with nitrous
with 410's your mph at 6000 with a 26 inch tall tire is= 113
with 3.73's its 124.5
These examples are in 4 th gear......not shifting to 5th......
With nos you should be able to go past 113 pretty easy.......so 3.73's are mandatory if you want to run out all the way......if you make enough power to trap over 124 and don t spin it past 6000 then you need a numeracally smaller gear......or more rpm.......

btw, we just went from 411's to 3.70's in 2000 ss that has heads /cam and it was set up for a wet kit.....it runs on 26's and has a rpm target of 6400 so 130 mph is hopeful......
It has a 9" ford, thats why the gear ratios are slightly different...

my friend ran the 4.11's for a little while and was having to shift so fast it wasn't even funny, i say go with the 3.73's. <img src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" border="0">
