I just got my nitrous system and wondered if its safe to leave the bottle in the car? Its getting into the 80's during the day now and gets pretty hot in my car sitting in the sun all day while Im at work. Should I take it out?

 

Never. Unless at the track.

If you have a cover for it like one of those bungy cord at the top slip over jobbies it might be ok, but if you ever feel the urge to use it or encounter a faster car on the way home, it's going to take a good bit of purging to get it to a usable bottle pressure 1000 or less.

 

Now that I think about it, 87* is supposedly 950-1000psi so as long as it isn't sitting in the direct sun and the inside of the car doesn't get over 100* it should be ok.

Then again I have seen interior of cars hit 120-130 in the summer time.

ahh ok yeah I have seen one of those. Thanks for the link. I guess I'll just play it safe and remove the bottle. "Better safe than sorry" keeps going through my head. I've learned too many lessons the hard way if u know what I mean.

I leave the almost empty bottles in my car. This 5 or so psi in a 15lb bottle and they hit 1200+

I would think a full or close to full bottle would get even higher. Which is no good.

 

It's been said on here before that the reason this car is in that condition was because the owner plugged the blow down port. Naturally the seal in the bottle should let the gas escape at a pressure too high so this doesn't happen.

 

I bring mine inside and keep it in the basement unless i'm at the track.

 

Same here instead I leave mine under the a/c vent in the house.

 

wow guys after reading so much on here that I could blow my engine up, and now seeing that I could even blow up the entire car, Im seriously starting to wonder if Ive gone too far with this nitrous kit and wondering if I should just take it off the car altogether. Are my concerns just paranoia or what? Is nitrous really this dangerous? Ive only got one car and cant afford to lose it..

 

Paranoia.

The guy who did that with his car used it improperly.

Just like if used improperly it will blow up your motor.

Just like if you run your car n/a improperly it will blow up your motor, same thing with a turbo or blower.

I've had my system installed a few months now and the bottle only comes out to be filled, but now this theead is making me paraniod. I do use a bottle blanket as pictured above to keep direct sunlight off, and have tinted windows which helps keep the interior temp down. I do park in a covered garage at work as well so the car isn't in the sun all day and I usually leave the windows cracked.

But now I'm scared...

You will have no problem with what you have said above.

Just having the cover on it will help a lot. It won't keep ambient hit from getting to the bottle, but it will keep direct sun light off of it.

Direct sunlight is what makes them rupture like that.

 

I see a blow down tube in my future.

 

As soon as I saw the the thread it reminded me of that picture! Always take the bottle out if your car is going to be outside in the heat while you're at school, work, etc. It's also a good idea to have a blow down tube.

Bottles also need to be re-certified every so often too, I cringe when I see people using a torch to heat a bottle up at the track.
