NOS Q: How can the dealer tell you have used N2O?
Reading and thinking about N2O -
If (unfortunately) you went too lean and blew your engine; can a dealership tell if you used NOS? If they can, is this a typical test for them to perform on blown engines in for warranty repair?
Also, by running too lean - what actualys fails? Piston meltdown? Throw a rod? What happens?
Just curious,
BP

i toasted the motor on a 98 cobra that was under warranty. they just wont hold a 250hp shot. too bad. it had a cold air kit on it that had the NO2 lines run ito it. i put the stock air intake back on it, took it to the dealer ship, said it was making some jacked up noises (some really loud ones). it fried to pistons and broke a couple of rings. they questioned the use of nitrous but i argued and ended up with a new motor. do it if you want. if something happens just dont take any **** off the dealer. you paid for the warranty. they dont just give them to you (i used to sell cars, they screw the public bad). unless they can 100% prove you sprayed it you have nothing to worry about. just play it safe. dont get greedy as i did and run 50/50 mix of 92 and 104 sunco.

I collapsed some lifters. Here is what I did,Took the system off, changed the oil twice and brought it to the dealer in stock condition. They didn't even question.I thought they would have to change the motor because of the noise.
The big thing for warrenty is to take the system completely off and change the oil a couple times to get the residue N2O leaves out.I've heard of GM doing oil samples to find the cause of the meltdown.

Well, I used N20 alot and lost an oil pump which took the motor in my old car. So maybe that caused it. GM took oil samples in mine and did not find anything. I did not change the oil either!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

This is no byproduct from N2O in the combustion process therefore nothing will be found in the oil. Just make damn sure you remove all physical evidence of the system. If you have melted plugs, change them...
