Default Gears with N2O

I'll be getting a 12-bolt soon, and was wondering what gears everyone would recommend when I get nitrous (may go to forced induction, but in all likelihood, nitrous). I have an M6, and was thinking 4.10s with a larger tire? Or should I get 3.73s?

EDIT: grammar at 1am sucks.

If you still drive it alot and the track is secondary...I would stick with 3.73s and 26" tires. Lots of people have run well with that combo and still have good street manners. I had 4.10s and with juice on the street it was rediculous. But if your primary goal is track performance and your rev limit/tire height is right...4.10s is still an option.

What kind of MPH are you expecting going through the traps?

The car will definitely be a daily driver. I haven't taken it to the track yet. I'm looking to hit high 11's/low 12's with drag radials, cam, and nitrous, and still be very streetable. Looks like 3.73s are the key.

Nitrous makes a ton of Torque, much of it at lower rpms.. I wouldn't go over 3.73's and I lower my shift points when spraying.

Why do you lower your shift points when spraying and exaxctly how low do you shift? I have stock internals and currently shift at 6 grand but will be installing a TNT wet kit -75 shot- in about a week. I just picked 6 grand because I didn't want to float my lifters. Is that two low/high? What do you recommend and why? Thanks - Mike W.

Well sounds as though you are relatively stock with nitrous. I would stay with 3.73s then becuase I think you will top out around 119-120 mph in 4th with 4.10 and stock tire height. Thats not too hard to reach with a good shot and bolt ons. You can shift at 6000 if you want but with nitrous the HP curve is usually very broad and wont kill your ETs if you shift a little sooner....not much though. I wouldnt shift any lower than 5800.

Personally I would stick to the 3.42:1.
Alot of people think higher gears are always faster. But I know alot of people that had alot slower times when going to a higher gear.
The reason being is traction.

The lower gear will help you maintain traction as you spray "off the line". (1st or 2nd)
That shot of nitrous is no good if its just burning up the tires.
However 3.73:1 is faster with good traction, especially N/A.

I suggest you get a aftermarket Torque Arm and Trailing Arms/Panhard Rod Kit. This will help traction alot.

Just a Suggestion.

Hmm interesting. Keep the opinions coming now, as I keep learning new things. Gotta love this site

I will most likely street race with the car more than the track (either one is going to be extremely rare, I just want to have some "fun" ). Although I know its not the safest, I know when NOT to do it too.

I'll probably end up using the purge more than the actual shot, as a sort of "Don't even try it, ricer..." warning.

I learned the hardway that 4.10's suck with 26-10R15 slicks. So I went with the 28" tire to give me a little more gear. The other slicks almost made it necessary to shift into 5th gear. Right at the ragged edge of 4th gear the quartermile was over, out of the best part of the torque curve.
For drag radials stick to the 3.73's to get the full effect of the nitrous. Street tires wont like anything much above stock. If your spinning you aint winning. Just my .02 cents.

Fast SS on NOS,

So how do you like the 4.10's with the 28" tire? On spray, what RPM and MPH are you going through the traps at?
