Default Nitrous on an A4 is spray through shifts ok????

I have been spraying right through my shifts with a TNT 75 shot and a ST3500. I went to a 100 shot and second gear is toast now. I just wanted to know if anybody else has been doing this or should I have gotten a window switch to deactivate the nitrous while it is shifting. I do not want to ruin another tranny once this one is fixed. I'm really new to this so any help is welcomed. I've heard alot of M6's use it but do I need one for my A4?
Thanks in Advance,

The stock 4L60 is marginally good for high hp NA cars...much less the 500ft-lbs of instant hard on the n2o puts out. pick up another stocker or an FLP trans and get a window switch. any 4l60 on nitrous is on borrowed time.

OR

you could switch to a 3-spd and never have to worry about it...

Thanks for the info. I will look into the FLP trans. I noticed you are in Plano. Mabey I could contact you and pick your brain a little I'm still new to all this and like I said I can always use the extra input.

Currently I’m doing an install of a NX kit on my ’99 Corvette, 48K miles, automatic tranny. I have purchased the little extras such as the electronic throttle switch (instead of that crummy manual garbage) and a MSD window switch (with 3000 RPM and 5000 RPM pills)

The plan was to set the activation on the window switch at 3000 RPMs and the cut off at 5800 RPMs. Will that be safe? Here’s what I’m worried about:

The tranny shifts right past 5800 RPMs, when it begins the shift to the next gear, the window switch will deactivate the nitrous at that point. BUT will it leave the nitrous deactivated long enough between shifts for the next gear to be engaged before it comes back on at 3000 RPMs?

Thoughts? I’m new to domestic performance. Was an import guy for years (Honda S2000, etc). I don’t know anything about this stuff.

Our new timing and N2O controller has a window switch built in where you can select either 5900 or 6300 for the upper window. Most guys raise theor shift ponits some and this seems to work very well at 5900. You can also retard timing when the system is activated and control the activation of the unit.
Thanks,

I'm betting that is an expensive little add-on. Post a link, though. I'd like to hear more about it.

I am looking at a NX MAF kit for my SS and am also interested in your timing and N2O controller. Could you drop a link or email me some specifics on this.

Thanks,

I have a good friend that works at a tranny shop build mine. I have just about everything you can do to upgrade it. I mean everything you can do to a 4L60E. I spray though the shifts even a 200 hp shot has had no detrimental effect. The tranny has about 130 NA passes and about 50-60 Nitrous passes.

But like I said there is no beefier 4L60E, than mine.....

If you do a shift kit or program firmer shifts you should have no problem. I did it on a T/A I had and blew the tranny a couple o ftimes. I got smart and programmed it and never had another problem. Since then I've had several T/A's and vettes, all sprayed, no problems at all.

A Hypertech PowerProgrammer could be used to firm up the shift points on a C5 Corvette, but it also changes some fuel and timing settings which I DO NOT want to do since I'm running nitrous.

Are there any other ways to reprogram the tranny for firmer shiftpoints?

You can choose whether or not to use the power programming, but still benefit from the other things the Programmer does. Fan temp., shift points, firmness, gears, etc.. You can pick up a used programmer for $150 if you look. That's why I did it.

I had a 2000 Camaro SS A4, I had the NX wet kit, I went from a 75 shot (just wasnt enough) up to a 150 and I blew my tranny within about 5 shots, I dont recommend shooting through shifts, I have a blown 4l60e tranny sitting on a pallet in my dads warehouse that Is nothing more than a paperweight, you are gonna have to build up the A4 to shoot through shifts, u are walking on thin ice.

I have a man by the name of John Goebel build my transmissions. In my experiences I have learned that the only real way for the tranny to last is to go to a fully manuel unit, get rid of the electronics, and bump up the pressure.

I've sprayed a 100 shot through shifts since January..and no problems...but I'm sure it's gonna let go. It's risky.

So if spraying through shifts is bad do you just wait until it switches before you hit it. Also how long does the shot last. Like if I hit it at the beginning of 2nd will it be over with by 3rd? I really don't know much about this.
