Default Building a NOS motor: What would you do?

To build a motor that could handle at least a 300 shot, maybe 400.

I'm thinking to start with a 6.0 block, bored, stroked?

Car would be a daily driver, thus, must have manners. But must be able to handle a very HARD & nasty hit. Track goal would be 9's.

Give me some suggestions, and keep in mind I would be building the motor myself, so dont suggest I have MTI, ARE build it for me. I dont mind getting the parts from them, but I want to put it together myself.

Estimate HP range of 700 to 800.

MTI is building me a 408 iron block motor specifically for nitrous application. Below is a list of goodies in that motor.

6.0L Iron block, bore to 4.03
Lunati 4" Stroker Crank
Lunati Billet Rods
Wiseco Custom Forged Nitrous Pistons.
C&A Rings & Clevite Bearings
SLP Double Roller Timing Chain
ARP Head Studs
Fel Pro Head Gaskets

And then a secondary fuel system /w its own fuel pump and fuel cell to keep race gas for the nitrous.

I can't wait. <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" />

Hey Harold, why not have your soon to be graduated friend build the engine? James would be very happy to crossthread a bolt in the main.... <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" />

- Iron Block overbored to 4.030"
a) cryro treat the block
b) O-ring the block
- ARP head studs
- ARP main studs
- ARP rod bolts
- billet main caps
- Lunati 4340 4.0" crank
- Oliver 6.125" Connecting Rods( get the 800 rwhp ones )
- Total Seal Nitrous Rings
- JE Forged Flat Top Nitrous Pistons
- Heads machined for O-ring
a) 1.60" Exhaust valves
b) 2.08" Intake values
- Comp Cam 232/239//581/594//112

This setup should handle the 300hp shot easily and 400hp shot confortably.

Those are great combo's guys. I am having a 422 built that will take a 250 shot from an F2 kit. I can only reccommend having your pistons coated for that much nitrous. My friend has a 7 second 69 Camaro and he had his pistons coated to survive the nitrous demon. There are a few companies that provide the service.

Harold I'd go 4.030 or 4.040 (to access the pistons that folks already make so they won't be custom).

I would not stroke it why spend another $2500 on a crank if you plan to spray it so hard... I heat treat a stock crank and get some $500 rods.

I'd spend the money on more important things like a fuel system and rails.
