Default Nitrous tuning

I am new to the world of nitrous and wondered is there a handheld system out there compatible with EFI live that can store 2 separate tunes, 1 for N/A and 1 for nos. My car is a 02 TA with stock ECM and SD tune.

I think EFI live has a handheld version of their tuner which would allow you to change tunes in car, but I'm not 100% sure. I have always wondered why no one developed a hand held tuner like the Mustang boys have that can store multiple tunes that you can change to on the fly. There is a plethora of them available them.

Yeah, well at least he got some sense if he's switched over.

It really doesn't make sense to me why there aren't programmers like that available in the LS world. Hell, if Predator, Diablo or even SCT made one for the LS, that would be bad ***. It would be perfect in a nitrous application because you could have your max effort NA tune, a tune where timing is pulled for a 100 shot, a tune were timing is pulled for a 150 shot, a tune where timing is pulled for a 200 shot, so on and so forth.

Or just get a lnc2000 and pull timing when you need it for nitrous so you always have the full potential NA

That's what I'm going to get, but still think the handheld you can plug into the OBD port would be nice. Then you could have the dyno tunes uploaded right into the handheld and switch tunes as you need to.

You couldn't do that on the fly like the LNC allows you to though.

Do most people have the LNC 2000 somehow wired up to where it pulls the timing when the arming switch is on? I think most people mount the LNC in the engine compartment, don't they?

I don't have mine on my arming switch. Mine is wired to only activate if I hit the nitrous button, not the arming switch. That way I have my full motor timing when I do my burnout and then soon as I spray timing is pulled. Mine is mounted in the engine compartment

All this wiring is going to confuse the **** out of me. What would be the best way to do this if I have the LNC2000 and the NOS Mini? I'd like to have it setup the way you're talking about, but I'll have the NOS Mini activate the nitrous off the TPS signal.

The orange wire needs to see 12 volts. Just tie that into your relay wiring.

Well, you don't need a handheld. Lookup EFI LIVE'S COS5. It loads both the nitrous and n/a tune on the PCM at the same time. You just flip pin 56 to ground and n20 tune is active.

Is this something that all good tuners can do and are knowledgeable on? This would be a lot cheaper than buying a separate device to pull timing.

You can wire the mini to activate the lnc2000 only when the nitrous is firing. It has an output control wire for each stage.

It comes w/the program. A good tuner should know how to do this. You basically trigger it and/off w/window, rpm, tps switch. Personally, I use the NOS Mini to do it:

Example of fuel and spark control:

I will be using the NOS Mini too. So you're saying that the tuner can set this up where the timing gets pulled once the NOS Mini sees WOT via the TPS signal and the nitrous is spraying in whatever window I program in the NOS Mini to activate and deactivate and anytime the nitrous is not spraying, the tune will revert back to the NA tune? If so, that would be awesome.

Yes, its just that easy.

I use NOS Mini in this configuration:

Channel 1: Nitrous Noids
Channel 2: EFI COS5

You could in theory put both on Channel 1, but here is why I would not:

As soon as the window is active, COS5 is active. This means you get an immediate spark reduction. HOWEVER, as soon as the window is closed, you also get 100% of the spark back immediately.

So at that instant spark comes back, to keep the nitrous mix/combustion from tangling w/full spark, I add about 200rpm to the window on channel 2.

For example:
Channel 1: 3800-6800
Channel 2: 3800-7000

Man, you've been so helpful and I really appreciate it. This is the reason I love LS1tech so much. I will have mine setup the exact same way because you are dead on about not having full spark while there could still be the mixture in the chambers, which would be a bad thing. Once I get the nitrous all installed, I'm going to show this thread to my tuner and have it setup just like this.

It does work well. In theory, what I was saying about the spark should not happen!

The 4 stroke engine will cycle that charge out and the next spark event should be with a normal air charge and spark value, but hey, we are dealing with aftermarket electronics and my $8k engine is not a test mule.

There are some guys they will say the retard should be there all the time. And I won't fight them on the fact that if the Mini fails, so does retard.
For a long time, I had the COS5 set on the arming switch via/ground relay. Or you could even put the COS5 on a dedicated ground switch.

All up to you, but I've had good luck w/the mini.

It sounds like if setup right, it will work great. My big thing is wanting to run an optimal NA tune when not spraying, and since money is tight, not having to buy a LNC2000 or MSD Timing Twister is a huge plus. I will be NA most of the time, so having max HP/TQ is important, but at the same time, when I do spray, I want enough timing taken out so I don't destroy anything.
