I would use the LS3 heads. One of the guys in house built a little 408 with an LS3 top end and it made over 500+ to the wheels on motor. What type of cathedral ports were you considering?

Factory heads, I'd go with LS3 heads, but id you've got it in the budget for aftermarket castings, go with some AI Dart/RHS heads from AI or some TFS heads.

245 Trick flow will do better job than stock ls3 cause their much higher flowing exhaust ports, however if I had my way I use the following heads:

My car ran real strong with the tfs 245's. I would probably go with
1. Tfs 255 ls3
2. Tfs cathedral
3. Ported lsa heads on a budget except I feel heads are a terrible place to save $$$ on a build.

I used box stock LS3's from GM with upgraded springs and hardware.

I want GenX255's for my next motor.

If you have TFS 245's, I would stay with those.. I'm not sure what kind of goal you are trying to achieve, but that is a better head than the Darts and we've gone plenty fast with those.
If you have nothing right now, I would get an LS3 super vic with 4500 flange, and get a set of Frankensteins version of the Trick Flow.
