Default Possibly hurt the motor

Long story short:

Was at 1/8 mile track, made 3 passes on a 250 shot. Was checking my hot cylinder which is 3rd back on driver side for my motor.

After third pass thought I heard a tapping in the motor. Took car home and could hear tapping at front driver side of motor.

Pulled all plugs on that side and the front cylinder had the strap burnt off.

Did compression and leak down and both showed good.

Injector on that cylinder is firing.

I have pulled the heads(small burnt area next to spark plug area).

Oil pan is off, no metal in pan or after cutting open oil filter.

Pulled that rod and piston with no damage to either the piston or bearing.

Cam is out as well. Everything looks fine.

It sounded like a bad lifter. Although none are collapsed.

I am curious now if a lifter failed causing detonation or the tune was off but I can't find any damage except some piston to valve contact in that cylinder as well on the intake side. The springs were tested 2 months ago.

The noise is at idle, once off idle it virtually goes away.

Any ideas?

I would want to check the springs again. Does that spring have visible damage?

Valve springs? No, none that I can see. I can't find a thing wrong but some witness marks on pistons. It sounds like a lifter tapping.

Silly question, but did you try running it again with a fresh plug?

Yes, I did. I actually tried unplugging individual injectors and coils, still tapping. I have started to reassemble. After watching numerous youtube videos it seems the lifters that fail are always front driver side. I can't find anything wrong. I've ordered all new gaskets, oil pump, timing chain, chain dampner, lifters, and will have the springs checked tuesday.

Test your push rods. Roll the on a flat surface and make sure they roll flat. Next test is the drop test and they should give a nice ping.

Push rods were too long. I had .100 preload. Think I was getting lifter pump up holding the valves open and causing ptv. Still cant figure what caused the burnt plug unless it was from the bad lifter not controlling the valve properly.

I for sure had piston to valve going on. Once I took all the lifters apart you could see that lifter for the intakes witness mark had moved .065". Not sure what happened. All back together and good now.
