Default Which fuel for nitrous????

Trying to decide between e85 (which is a very new concept for me) or regular race fuel. The car will be driven occasionally. Was hoping some of you more experienced folk could learn me something on e85 with nitrous or if I should stick with the race gas. Motor is a forged 408 with good heads 12:1cr, direct port holley hi ram, dominator ecm. Max hit it would ever see is probably 300. Thanks for any advice.

Note: both fuels are readily available, will most likely order drums.

So neither one has a real advantage over the other in concern to performance with nitrous?

What fuel do you use on the motor?

Either is fine for use with nitrous... But C16 race gas has a little advantage over the E85 because of the higher octane rating. I've had customers spray 400hp on E85 and the same on C16. It really boils down to preference and cost. E85 can be purchased way cheaper than C16. My personal preference in my vehicles < Via Dedicated tank > is to run C16.

That's what I'm trying to decide, I was originally just going to run a stand alone with a lower cr. but have since decided to stick with one fuel. Just weighing my options on what will be the best performer. I'm leaning towards e85 more so because I want to cruise the car every now and then and I see most people have lower iat's.

Oh ok I got ya. I wanted to run dry nitrous on my car with the Holley but don't want to have to run the whole thing on race gas just to go cruising. I personally prefer gas over ethanol but I know it works. If you have enough injector, you could run dry nitrous and E85 and have the best of both worlds so to speak. I've got a customer who runs a wet shot with the dominator and runs E85 on the motor and E98 in his stand alone. His setup is pretty quick and fuel hasn't ever been a problem.

E85 requires different jetting and makes it harder to read the plugs, specially for someone who isnt used to looking at plugs. I would use race gas.

E85 mileage sucks for a street car. I was getting 180-200 miles tops. Having done both setups, I like the standalone with c16 in it. As stated above its easier to read the plugs too

Default Make your own E-85 & E-90

My method IS, I make MY OWN E-8X

E-85 IS pump gas (Benzine), the lowest grade, then mixed with E-100.

NEVER sure what you get. (E-70/E-85)

Thus "make" your own blend !

If you are going to tune on the edge dont use E85.

It is not consistent ratio and water content.

So what is good with one tank full may not be on the next.

The VP fuel will be very consistent as long as you keep the can closed.

Have a look at VP X-16. It is less $$$ than the C16 and it works very good for a shot that size.

I'm spraying on E85 on the ZR1, finding it to be very inconsistent due to the varying content levels of ethanol from pump to pump, food for thought.

I bought a 5 gallon pail of VP Drag Racing C16 for $90 from my local speed shop which I'm using with my dedicated fuel system. Here's a link to the dedicated fuel system:

I'm saying stick with race gas. Content level can be an issue but usually a good pump produces a similar product week after week. Also, note that if you find good ethanol and try to store it, it has a much shorter shelf life.

oh yeah!! well my tuner says it's great lol. I use Jeramy Formato and he told me it's like anything else that's new or just starting to be used, a lot of misinformation, guys make mistakes, it's on the internet so it has to be true. But I met a few guys just recently and they told me it's the way to go and it's just not many have tried it or know (key word) how to tune for it. I did use X16 in my standalone, a rec from Speedtiger last year and it really cleaned up my tune for nitrous. I'm switching Motor on E85 so stand alone also on E85.
