My 4l60e has the revised 1st and 2nd gear being a 2.83 and 1.55. Converter is a ProYank 3600 spec’d For the nitrous shot. What is it about going to the TH400 will make the difference of .3? If both trannies hold up would it not just be a question of tuning? I’m always open to different perspectives. As far as weight, convertible starts 350llbs heavier and since I still drive it on the street and 300 miles round trip to the Drag Strip i’ve Gone as far as I can for now. Took another 50llbs out though!

if it was me, I would look for a used th400 with a 1.7/1.4 planetary in it or a glide with a 1.64 first... put it in and let it eat... heat a good nitrous converter built... and you will see amazing gains.

start getting some weight out of that car too you have at least 500 lbs that can come out.

Being that you still daily drive the car, keep the 4L60E for now. If it breaks then put a 4L80E in if it will fit. Some guys are too narrow minded to see that a car still has to be practical for the street. To them racing is all there is.

Wrong with what? I was replying to CanadianEh! about what someone ELSE said to HIM. It was about keeping a car usable for street duty...

Hey guys, all I did was advise tranny choices. He daily drives the car BESIDES racing it. A 4L60E is not a POS as long as it's doing the job asked of it. A Powerglide is no good on the street.

Yeah you wind it to the sky, then feel the lunge as the ONE shift hits... there's a reason they quit making them over 40 years ago. Great strip tranny, crap for the street.

Not really at all if you have the converter and the rear gear right.

With 2 gears to play with, you either set it up to accelerate OR cruise the highway. There is no flexibility. With four or more gears you have the best of both worlds. The P/G is a racing tranny, pure and simple

I will argue it all day. You have real power in a car and you’ll be glad that first gear is long, helps make thing a little more controllable.

30 inch radial, 3.50 gear it cruises decent. Put a lockup converter in and it cruises real well, and that’s a perfectly acceptable gearing for something making big power at the track. (Trap 185 plus, real power).
