Default Personal Best on New Nitrous Engine set-up with plug pic!!

It’s been a while since I posted. Long story short dropped a valve seat in my old LS402 which caused a lot of damage and prompted me towards a new build. Car is 2001 Camaro Z28 Convertible weighing in at 3795 with Driver. My new build is a 11.5:1 Steel 434 c.i. SHP LS Next Block with Diamond LS2k pistons, Lunati Pro Series I-beam Rods and Callie’s Crank. Breathing through Brodix 6 Bolt LS3 CNC Heads and Ported FAST intake. Martin Smallwood spec’d the cam for a 400 shot. Nitrous is delivered through a 2 Stage Nitrous Outlet Direct Port/Plate using a NX Maximizer 5 Progressive Controller. The WOW comes from my first passes down the track. Last set-up with the 402 on a 300 shot best pass was 9.61 and 142. Second pass on new set-up on only a 150 shot it ran 9.644 at 141.70 and 1.430 sixty!! I’m thinking a 300 shot will get me very close to 8s and I’m comfortable to work my way up to a 400 shot. I pulled a plug after the 9.644 pass which looked a little hot pulling 7 degrees from 26 (I’d like to see closer to the tip) and fuel looks a little rich. I’m going back this Saturday to pull all 8 plugs so I can find the hot cylinder for tuning. It’s been a long journey but these results make it all worth it!! Interested in feedback on the timing: Hot or just right?

Thanks Brandon. Plug is from #5 Hole which was always the hot one on my old set-up. I still need to pull all 8 on the next pass to see how even things are but hoping with the Direct Port it should be pretty good.

Very nice results. Makes spending all that money seem worth it when you make them kind of gains.

Thanks HandyAndy496...that is a NGK R5671A-10 code 5820 which is a 10 Heat range non-projected tip. I just spent 8 hours today (it’s tight in that engine bay) re-jetting the Direct Port from the 150 jetting which was jetted too rich. I now have a 29/19 set-up at 10 psi which should be around a 260 rwhp shot. I’m hoping to test this out prior to end of year but weather is horrible here for the next few weeks!

Default **New Update**

It’s been a while since I updated as we have had the worst weather!! Finally got out to the track with 250 jets in the Nitrous Outlet Direct Port. I pulled 12 degrees from 26 just because it was the first run on the new jets and I wanted to play it safe until I could read a plug. The picture below shows fuel pretty close and I could have added at least a degree of timing back in. The tune needs to be adjusted as it hit the limiter on the 1-2 shift (7200) and the 2-3 shift (7400). This cost me a few tenths. Overall, I was very happy with the 9.44 on a 250 as I was at 9.66 on a 300 shot with the old set-up. I’m feeling I can get to the 8s as I work my way slowly up to a 400 shot. That’s it for the season so have to wait to next year, however, It’s always good to put the car away not broke!!

Tranny is Performabuilt Level 3 Black Edition 4L60e. I’m adjusting both Rpm and mph shift points. I set WOT 1-2 and 2-3 shift at 6700. Mph at 45 and 83 respectively which is lower than the shift rpm so both parameters would be met to allow the shift. N/A that has the shifts done at 7000 rpm which is right where I want it. Those shift parameters at approximately 900 rwhp on the nitrous put the 1-2 at 7200 and the 2-3 at 7400. I’m spraying through the shifts so I need to reduce the shift rpm for 1-2 to 6500 and 2-3 to 6400 which I think will put the shifts at the desired 7000 rpm.

I was on a 100 shot plate kit & pretty happy with the results. I'm thinking I should be close to 9.70 @ 140 on a 150 shot. 416 w 11.5:1 CR

Fuel looks good but I can't see your timing mark and it looks like you've got some specs on the porcelain. Are you sure you're not all the way through the bend?

I've got 13 degrees pulled from 26 currently with 28/24 jets but my timing mark isn't even in the bend yet. I'd think you'd be ok with 12 pulled but it looks like you went all the way through the strap already. What do the other plugs look like?

A plug from a pass where you hit the limiter, is bunk data.

I didn't notice that before in his post. Just re-read through the thread.

If you shitcan that pos transmission and put a good th400 or a glide in the car you will immediately see another .3 at least right off where you are, guarantee it.

if it was me, I would look for a used th400 with a 1.7/1.4 planetary in it or a glide with a 1.64 first... put it in and let it eat... heat a good nitrous converter built... and you will see amazing gains.

start getting some weight out of that car too you have at least 500 lbs that can come out.
