Default MAF screen removal, the final word please???

ok i've searched and i've gotten mixed opinions on this....i'm very confused at this point.

To descreen or not to descreen on a dry shot????

all i want to know is people who have descreened and run fine (on a custom tune) vs. people who spray through the screen and have no problem.

note: my A/F ratio was tuned to right about 13.0 (n/a) last time on the dyno.

also, i can remove any necessary timing while on the hit with my timing tuner. currently it's setup to pull 4 degrees on the 100 shot, but i have yet to actually spray it.

please, experience only please??? i know people have "heard" you must descreen the MAF, that doesn't help me.

I have seen a few percent change at most in the airflow by removing the screen. Not enough to hurt anything, including auto tranny line pressures IMO.

I think if you have a funny setup, like where the nozzle
is blowing across the MAF face, this could bias the airflow
and cause poor reading fidelity. But if it is far enough back
(ahead) and in the direction of airflow the MAF should not
be perturbed.

I have not run nitrous on my car yet, but it seems your primary remaining concern is if removing the screen will have any ill affects on the A4 so I'll chime in.

I've have an A4 and I removed the screen. The car drove different, so I believe it miscalibrated the maf. I corrected the maf transfer function by over a period if two weeks by using the ltrims and excel. My maf transfer function is now much closer than the factory one. :)

The car's got 41,000 on it now and it drives perfect. As far as I can tell, if you are willing to correct the maf transfer function in ls1edit then you absolutely eliminate any negative side effects of descreening the maf.

BTW, my line pressure is 54 PSI at idle in gear, and ramps to 195 PSI wot.

What am I the only one that says do NOT remove it? The maf sees the dry shot and adds fuel the screen helps it see all the nos and evenly! I had lots of poblems with out the screen. Codes and running bad! With the NOS dry shot car would die! But a screened MAF in there and checked the tune and ran like a champ! It is even a good idea for all cars.

the hell with it, i'm gonna make a couple dyno pulls with the screen in and then ill check it. i've got friends that didn't descreen theirs and BOMBED their cars on jetless dry shots for a long time.

i can't risk burning up the tranny. maybe when i can i'll get a retune and have them fix it up to run right without the screen.

I don't plan on shooting it too often (i know everyone says that, but im too broke to make nitrous a weekly maintenance item. ) and i'll only be spraying 2nd and third until i can get some cash for slicks. so a little 100 shot through two gears SHOULD be ok i would think???

I've shot 150 on descreened after the screen froze. No difference with drivability, on the contrary, since my car was running a little rich, descreening leaned it a little and it ballanced it out.

When I descreened mine, it seemed to help a little with the idle and surging problem I have. I say descreen it
