Default progressive question

Anyone ever done a 300 shot on a stock bottom end by starting at 30 percent and building to a 100 percent in like 9 seconds??

Just wondering.... is it safe or is there a better way

no way in HELL your motor would take that. Especially if its going to have a T-Rex in it.

Even if it could it wouldn't matter because your tires would liquify, your tranny would break, your 10bolt would pop.

Dude....A 200 shot will be plenty. I'm going to try a 150 progressive shot next year. Go small and work up David!

A 150 is all we suggest on a stock bottom end. I do know many customers spraying 200 and some 250 on a stock bottom end. But a 300 is going to be very trickey. It will deffintly need to be progressive and the tune up will need to be perfect and you still may have a nice hole in the block when you are done.

In that case you might get away with a 225 shot. People pretty much agree that 550RWHP is pretty safe with the stock bottom end. Some people say higher, but almost everyone agrees that after 600 you're playing russian roulette. With a Trex and 225 shot, you'll be at or beyond that point. I'd drop down to a 200 and make sure you get a safe, spot-on tune, not just one where some guy does a few pulls on the dyno and sends you out the door.

Brook '99 Redhawk who was the first to attempt really big shots on the stock bottom Ls1 did this. He had a two stage TNT system spraying a total of 300... It lasted a few runs but he would melt plugs etc almost every pass. Then he proclaimed he was going to try to blow the engine. He activated the full 300 off the line and succeeded. The pics of the engine destruction was some of the most graphic and disturbing Ive seen on an Ls1.

Head for 1-3-5-7 , again #3 is slightly pitted and the rest are clean .

I think its truely amazing there are no craters or chunks of ceramic and tungston imbedded in the pistons and heads .
I have destroyed 7 sets of spark plugs in this motor so far only to find no real damage .

I get to go to the track Friday night ,,, WAAAHHHhhhooooo ! !
Was spraying 300 (150+150) and every other combo of 250-200-225-xxx in between...

So, the LS1 will take a beating.

Brook was the first but since that time which was at least 3 to 5 years ago, 9's have been turned again and again on the stock shortblock.... It can be done but it has to be tuned perfectly.

As for the pics of Brookes car, I really have no idea where to look....

For what ever it's worth, a guy around here was putting 575rwhp and ended up busting a ring land on a LS6. Now he was doing a all in one torque monster hit outta the hole. My self, I am breaking the torque up a bit to insure that my stock block will live for awhile. Doing 150 passes a season, if not set up correctly, like has been stated a couple times, I would probably have seen the end of my block allready. Also, another thing that has been said I follow also, that's start smallish and work your way up. This way you can insure your tune is right on and avoid potential problems. Good luck
