the common rule is 1* for every 50 horse.so i would say 3-4* to be safe.on a 100 shot i pull 2*.

OK thats what i wanted i allways heard 2 degrees for every 50 this is why i asked. I also wanted to see the differance in timming between 98-2000 and 01-02 i know the timming tables are different wondered if the 01 02 guys even have to pull any.

Wet or Dry?? The Dry will pull timing on it's own the wet shot could use a
couple of degrees pulled for safety in my .02

To compare tables visit H.P. or Red Hard Supra's Blogs or e-mail me i can send.

this is a dumb question, but how exactly due you time the ls1? I'm assume you have to use a tuning program?

Yep
But you can pull timing with a simple IAT Tricker! Look to Robert's site for details on timing.

I'm not a fan of flattenning the spark table so a simple 26 deg. number is not the answer to me.
Alot of site's can be accessed from the stickies!
H.P.Tuners and Supra both have links.

I meant a peak of 26 degrees, not 26 through the entire range. ;-)

Shots 150hp and below normally need no timing pulled, unless added to stock in a tuner program. The best way is do some logging. This random rule of so many degrees per so many hp, is imo, bull crapus. Your just guessing and that makes no sense, let's start just guessing on out a/f? I know this rule has been floating around for a long time, but makes no sense.

not trying to be a dick, but not all of us can afford a $500 tune or $1000 laptop...we have to rely on ABOUT how much we should pull.i pull 2* on my 100 shot and i dont HEAR any detonation.but when i didnt pull any, i CAN hear it.with my new goodies im gettin, in that array of new parts will be an a/f gauge...hopefully that'll take alil of the "guess"-work out of the whole deal.

I bought a used H.P.Tuner and used Laptop for just the car. Total investment for that
was 650.00. Yes i still need to pay Dyno time but just for bases. And the programing
i load.

Hocky seems to be really the only one that understands my question i have seen the timming tables i relize that they are not flat i just want the highest spark timming in the wot area of the table. (not doing this cause i cant figure out timming i have hp tunners i will be able to log for kr just want to see what others are running)
On a side note getting a tunning program and a used laptop is cheaper in the long run not to mention if you know a few people who want tunning done you can split the cost. 300 for laptop on ebay + 650 for 2 modle years with hptunners and wide band interface (new) +200 for wide band= 1150 can be split between 2 people
Now 2 dyno tunes for 2 people = 2000

Well with all your bolt ons and no tune, no wonder you have some pinging. A stockish car about 95% of the time needs no timing pulled on the 150 and under shots. Bolt ons thrown into the pic with no tune, then all bets are off. sorry if I wasn't clear on this.
Robert

Edit: 98redorange, likely with your set-up stock value max timing should be fine. Really the only way to tune for peak power, concerning timing, is to do it on a dyno. Max timing without KR is not always max HP, so this is were the dyno can help. Some think running timing up till knock then backing it off is the way, not so. What works best for your set-up you'll need to tune for, but a good starting place is stock values. I am running a total of 22* and am set-up for a 200 shot right now. I hope you can gleen some insight from everyones input and get a set value that works for you.
