Question for all my fellow POL people in here. I am about to put nitrous on the ol camaro and was wondering if anyone else has thought of this. I am going to do a dry nitrous set up injected through the intake box, but instead I was thinking of filling up the bottle with LOX. All of us POL people know or should know, LOX will turn into a gaseous state at -297 degrees. Im guessing by the time you hit the button and it travels through the lines to the intake box it should just be cold pure oxygen. So if you injected that into the intake box during the summer its pure cold air for your car. I have talked to our cyro people and they think it could work. Anyones thoughts on this or am I crazy.

I definately want to know the outcome of this experiment. I thought LOX were for Bagels...but that's just me.

LOX is EXTREMELY dangerous. I would not recomend even trying this. It is very likely to react with the small amounts of petroleum residue in the intake fro either fuel from reversion or oil from the PCV. It would likely ignite that mix immediately.

Just remember, any element can change phase under two conidtions: temperature and pressure. In other words, water vapor can be compressed into a liquid

 

I doubt seriously that the MAF could compensate for the air density changes rapidly enough if you were to use LOX and as 393LQ4SS said LOX is extremely flameable when it comes in contact with anything petroleum based. It could be done in a controlled environment with the proper equipment though.

 

not to mention liquid oxygen is a WHOLE LOTTA gaseous oxygen...lol. Better be ready to make 30,000 hp...lol.

You could do LOX converters and make it so its just gaseous 02...but then you may as well use regular o2 to begin with. Alot safer.

Problem, when you mix LOX with a POL you get a boom!!!

 

ZO6 your motor will blow, not maybe it will. As sated before pure oxygen is very flamable it will more than likley blow up in the intake before it makes it into the chamber but, if it does make it into the combustion chamber I would think that the ambient heat would ignite it while the intake valve was still open at which point the rest of the charge in the intake would explode. Nitrous oxide is more stable because of the nitrogen, it acts as a buffer not allowing the oxygen to burn until it makes into the combustion chamber at which time the compression stroke puts enough pressure and heat against the N2O to seperate the nitrogen from the oxygen allowing the oxygen to burn at just the right time. Thats why N2O is not flammable, the mixture has to be put under extreme pressure and heat to seperate and allow the oxygen to burn. If i'm not mistaken this idea has been tried in the past having a very bad outcome. Just my opinion.

 

remember air is only 20% o2. all im gonna say is find some bullet proof glass and put the engine inside it, before you do this. find the smallest jet too.

 

did something similar to this a couple years back in science. outcome was a big fireball, and we were using a little methanol not petrolium based products.

Plus, you better get some ricer juets, the kind that are set for like a 20hp shot. better yet, don't even try unless you have a bunch of money for a new motor, in which case I would recomend taking my word for the situation and sending me the money for my nitrous kit

i have to admit that i would prob do it if i had a bottle of liquid oxygen. about 10hp jet. make it a wet shot though because i dont think the maf could adjust for the different ratio of oxygen to air.

Won't aluminum and iron both burn in the presence of pure oxygen? I could be wrong, but I don't think it's good for them, regardless.

Nitrous oxide got it's start in WWII on German fighter planes. Gave them the oomph they needed in a dogfight. All those aircraft had oxygen on them for the pilots to breath at high altitudes. If pure oxygen would enhance the performance of an internal combustion engine without burning it up, they would have used it. They didn't.

Rockets, however, often use LOX. Take out your LS1, and put a shuttle motor in, and you'll be unbeatable.

 

Whats the point of this? Just spray the fuckn nitrous!
