Default Burst Disc Ruptured Today

I just bought a brand new NX blowdown fitting and it obviously came with a rupture disc installed. Last night I emptied the tank and took out the original burst plug out of the NX bottle. I went over the instructions and put it in with no oil or any type of thread sealer and tightened to 15ft/lbs on my torque wrench.

I went to fill the bottle today and apparently it blew when there was about 8lbs in it. He said he saw a slight leak and then it poped and drained the whole bottle out. He was saying they need to be on there really tight and I said I did it to 15 ft/lbs per the instructions.

Anyway, I felt like an *** because this guy was out 8lbs of nitrous. I also need it filled by tomorrow. Can I put in the original NX plug to get me by for a day? I know the instructions say not to reuse but I followed them and it didn't work so who knows.

Is it 15 ft/lbs or more?

There is a mustang on f-body night at the track tomorrow. If I can't run it or don't pass inspection I'd be pissed.

Depending on what someone posts about reusing the stock disc I put it on the blowoff valve and this time used my Inch-Pound torque wrench instead of my Foot-Pound. It could have been me seeing how it may not be accurate below 20 ft/lb

I tightened it down per the instructions 15 ft/lb to 180 in/lb. It should be dead on torque -wise.

The rule of thumb is not to reuse the burst disk. However if you are in a pinch and have no other choice the worst that can happen is it could rupture again loosing all your nitrous.

So it is no more than 15 ft/lbs then? The reason I ask is because they guy said to bring it in and he "will tighten it down good" That makes me think he is going to blow this one as well by over tightening.

It is at a solid 180 in/lbs right now. I assume there aren't different styles of bottle vs. blowdown etc.?

i was a dumbass once and blew my disk... i was in a pinch and needed one to fill my bottle to race the following day. threw the original one back in no problem. even passed tech by setting my blowdown tube over it. they didnt even give it a second look but they were all over my *** as to where the end of the blowdown hose leads(out the trunk vent) cause they couldnt see it.

Went back for round two today. He got 10lbs in it and when I got back I wanted to double check the weight and noticed it had a very slight leak around the fitting again.

It was exactly to 15ft/lbs and was leaking. I figured rather than knowingly lose $45 worth of nitrous I'd tighten it down a bit more. It ended up being around 1-2 more ft/lbs (I was using in/lbs)

So is it 15 ft/lbs or 16,17,??? Or should you just "tighten it down"? I can't figure out it is me or the directions are off.

The instructions call for between 14-17 ft/lbs

The NX instructions say 15ft/lbs. If there was an acceptable range that would have set my mind at ease.

Knowing that you are wrenching down on more-or-less a piece of tinfoil designed to blow seems like there may be a better design so it doesn't get torn along the way. It was probably a freek thing and at least now I know it may be more like 17 ft/lbs to keep it from leaking.

Thanks!

Are you coming down to MIR for that? IF so you dont need to worry about tech. All they do is- give them your tech card, they put a number on your car. Its that easy. They dont worry about safety equipment untill after a run. If you know your car will run 11.30 and you dont have cage you will get one run in then they'll tell you to slow it down or quit racing.
