Default Nitrous newbie questions - please help

Well I am finally ready to buy a nitrous system for my 98 Z28 but I have a few questions. I did search this forum first, but I have specific questions based on my setup. The only mods I have are a 3400 2.1 STR Fuddle stall, airlid, Nitto DRs, and an exhaust cutout. I have 2.73 gears and stock exhaust. The motor and tranny both are original w/ 89,000 miles.

What kit would be best? I am thinking a 100 shot of some sort.

Where should I buy the kit? I heard Nitrous Dave is good.

Will my current setup be ok with nitrous or can I expect problems? ie toasting my 4L60e tranny. I only plan on using the nitrous once in awhile (although I hear its addictive).

Will I need special tuning after installing nitrous? I am planning on having a local performance shop install the kit and I am wondering if the air/fuel mix will be ok or will I need to have a shop with tuning software (like HP Tuners) adjust it. Also I read here that I will need to change the spark plugs.

I was told my stock fuel pump and injectors would be ok with a 100 shot. Is that true?

So I guess what it boils down to is - please let me know what I will need to buy for a decent 100 shot nitrous system and where I should buy it. Also please let me know what tuning I will need afterwards. THANKS

I would go with a wet kit mainly becuase it does not require larger injectors to run a bigger shot. It is addictive and you probably will want to quickly move up to a 150 shot. Which kit is the "Best" is a matter of preference. I like NX products but many others like other brands like TNT, cold fusion, or NOS. They are all good kits though. Your setup should be Ok for nitrous, I would get a high flow fuel pump though for safety. You do not need a tune with a kit but is a great peace of mind addition to the kit. Ever since i tuned mine i have no doubt that my AFR is where i want it so i dont lean out. Change spark plugs to a colder plug like NGK TR6 gapped around .038, this is a MUST for nitrous so you dont melt the hotter plugs.

You could go with either a wet kit or a dry kit. Do you think you might do some more mods down the road, or want to spray more then a 100 shot? If you don't plan on either a dry kit can be a good "bang for the buck" approch. If your worried about the trans use a RPM window switch to shut down the nitrous system right before the shift. You should be okay with your factory fuel system with your current mods and a 100 shot, with either a wet or dry system. You will have to swap out the spark plugs to a colder set (TR6s). As long as the system is set up correctly you shouldn't need to do a pcm tune, but it wouldn't hurt to strap her down on a dyno and verify everything is good. We also have a few kits that would suit you, let me know if you have any questions.

I do not plan on any more mods at this point. I also thin a 100 shot should be fine for me. Thanks.

Would a bottle heater and purge kit be needed for my application? Thanks.

You think 100 is enough until you get used to it and want more. Trust me, its addictive.

Purge is not needed but a heater is a must to get the bottle up to the proper PSI. I would get both.

Either one would work for you. Main difference between the kits is the dual nozzle kit can spray a larger shot, I think you would be fine on the Sudden Impact single nozzle kit.

Let me know if you have any other questions with our kits.

Thanks,
Matt
