just put my plate on, whistles just a tiny bit. its super high pitched and not everyone can even hear it. doesnt bug me though as I ussually have the music going only seems to be at low rpms and partial throttle.

if you can hear ur intake whistle, then ur cars not loud enough!
that is kinda odd though. the air flowing over the holes does make sense.

OK, so here's my theory on it. It ususally happens at low rpm with partial throttle, which creates a vibration in the engine. Even though the plate is tight against the rubber gasket and no air is leaking(I checked mine thoroughly) there is still the slightest gap between the plate itself and the throttle body, enough to make a high pitched hum with the vibration.
Like I said, it doesn't bother me. It's sort of amusing and foreboding, like a rattlesnake shaking it's tail just to let you know it's there.

well i am glad you guys posted these findings up, but geeeeeez it ticks me off. last week after a heads/cam intake/dave's plate...nx kit swap, i took my car to the dyno shop to get tuned. well after we got the injectors lined out.... we started to hear the plate.....which we thought for sure was a vaccume leak. my first thought was to take the plate off and see what happens.....didn't have the shorter bolts with me that would be for the throttle body with out the plate. so we had to put it back on. long story short my car didn't get completely tuned, pending me fixing the (vaccume leak) after i trailored it an hour to the shop. now i have no trailor, and the car still won't idle. sucks. wish i had known about this sooner.

Something else must be goofy, because my plate didn't affect the way the car ran *at all* .. Mine doesn't whistle though either.

Damn I hate these kind of posts. I guess it's just me. My opinion states you are pissed at your tuner or you situation and you are looking for a way to project it on another product. I doubt that the plate has caused your car to have difficulty idling. H/C swaps often are tough to tune. The plate issue is a noise one...nothing more as far as I can tell.

i think he ment that they quit tuning it cause they thougth they had a vacuume leak, not that the plate caused it to run bad

Sorry to here this. Whats funny is that I have never heard the plate whistle. But then again I am half deaf.

I have heard throttle body spacers and cold air kits cause a whistling sound also. Ofcourse its no big deal...

I know its to late now but you could have easily checked for a vacumme leak by spraying soapy water or carb cleaner around the throttle body. This would have taken a few seconds and would have told you if there were a actual vacume leak... Im suprised the shop did not suggest it.

Came across this while surfing for a how too on changing fuel injectors.

Are the whistling cars all 2001?

http://corvetteactioncenter.com/kb/q....php?qstId=265

Subject: Whistle Noise From Intake Manifold/Throttle Body (Replace Intake Manifold)
Source: Chevrolet Dealer Technical Service Bulletin
Number: 02-06-01-021

Models: 2001 Chevrolet Corvette with 5.7L Engine (VINs G, S -- RPOs LS1, LS6)

1999-2002 Chevrolet and GMC C/K Pickup and Utility Models (Avalanche, Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali, Yukon Denali XL) with 4.8L, 5.3L or 6.0L Engine (VINs V, T, Z, N, U -- RPOs LR4, LM7, L59, LQ9, LQ4)

Condition:

Some owners may comment on a whistle noise coming from either the intake manifold or the throttle body. The noise is most noticeable between 1100 and 2000 RPM.

Cause:

This condition may be the result of airflow through the intake manifold. (No ****!)

Correction:

Replace the intake manifold with the part listed below. Refer to the Intake Manifold Replacement procedure in the Engine Mechanical - 5.7L sub-section of the Service Manual (SI Document ID #642853).

It's not a "whistle". It's a high pitched vibration noise, like you took a vibrator and held it against a tuning fork (don't ask how I came up with that analogy!).
... and no, it's not all 2001's. My car is a '99 and I've got the "noise".
