Default 5177 Dry Kit Help!

I am using the NOS 5177 Kit. I have everything installed as layout in the shows. The system has worked great for three years. Now when I test the system with the car running and the micro switch depressed and the NOS lines disconnected from the breather at idle it works perfect.

At the track with the bottle pressure at 900 PSI and everything turned on and making what I think is a NOS pass no increase in trap speed or decrease in ET.

Any help!

I have the FPSS installed as well.

Thanks

check the calibration of the fpss. are you running a window switch?

No window switch. This is an auto and the car has been running fine with the NOS and then it just stopped spraying. It works at idle!

One question why would it go out of adjustment? It has worked fine for 4 years.

Thanks for the help!

What he said, this was a common problem with the 5177. The switches were set pretty close to the cars normal fuel pressure and sometimes would need to be adjusted after they were installed.

I would bypass the fpss switch to test it. Another possibility is you really do have low fuel pressure at WOT and it's doing its job. How old is the fuel pump? Plugged filter?

Having mucho experiance with the 5177, I have some thoughts. Bypass FPSS and see if it sprays, I doubt this is the issue. Here's what happens on the 5177: The small noids are really under powered noids, once they get some time on them (years) they get even weaker. This will come to light when engine bay temps come up. What happens is the noids heat up, which in turn causes more resistance for noid to over come. They can't do this because of their weak build. Add to this a little higher bottle pressure, and they just won't work. Ask me how I know? Time for rebuilds, or upgrades.

Thank for all of the input.

Robert56,

The system works just fine in the driveway. However I have not tested the system at home with the bottle pressure at 900 psi. I will try that to see if it works at idle and at 3,000 RPM's disconnected from the air lid.

What is the purpose of using two noids with the 5177? Can I remove the two small noids and add one bigger noid?

Has anybody else done this?

One final question could my whole problem be due to colder weahter?

Thanks

you can always run the hose in between the noids in the Tee and run one noid per hose or use it as a 2 stage been done many times over many years

The redundant noids are for safety, if one sticks open the other will still close. Yes, you can change to one bigger stronger noid. Here is a schematic for running the 5177 in a dual stage config.

Thanks Robert, I will have to give that some thought. I will heat the bottle and see if the NOS will work with at the higher bottle pressure.

Well finally adjusted the FPSS after changing the noids out and the system still not working. Not sure why the FPSS got out of adjustment after so long of a period.

Recorded a run at the dragstrip yesterday and the car ran perfect on the NOS and the system work like it use to before having the problems. All readings were in check.

I adjusted the FPSS 1 turn counter clockwise and the dry system worked perfect once again.

Just thought I would post in case anyone else has this problem.

The funning thing about this whole thing is it would work in the driveway but not at the dragstrip.

You never did answer the question I had for you. Youre right to wonder why after all this time your having to adjust the FPSS. The fact that it worked in the driveway (no real load) and not at the track also indicates a fuel delivery problem. That might be the regulator, plugged filter but most likely the pump

i run my 5177 without the FPSS and the small noids burned up, so i changed them out for a single noid.
i have not had any problems on mine...
also i feel a bigger hit when the pressure it between 950-1000 but i dont go any higher than that
