Default Hey all you wet guys......

how often are you checking your fuel noids?
Would like to know becuse most, if not all of the gas stations up here have ethenal as an additive. I know that after time this can cause the fuel noid plunger to swell and maybe fail to open/shut.
That would be a bummer.

we (ls1tech nitrous community) need to come up with a fix for this, if it becomes a problem. i've heard something about this before. maybe the answer for now is a standalone system with race fuel.

A stand alone is one answer. I would try asking the manufacture of your nitrous kit what plunger material is used in your fuel solenoid, and then depending on that answer set up a regular maintenance routine. Just in case anyone is wondering, we made the switch a while back. Even still, regular maintenance on the solenoids should still be performed regularly.

I was under the impression that the noid makers, there only a couple of them, switched the seal plunger etc to be compatible? Since there really is no way to purge the fuel out, since it will just refill from the rail feeding it....hmmm.. I used to check mine monthly (when I raced every other w/e) and weekly when I was racing every Fri and Sat...

most places offer solonoid rebuild kits. I recommend innspecting both of your noid about once a year and then if their is a problem, buy a repair kit.

I haven't had to rebuild a noid yet, but I hear it isn't dificult!

I would also like to know what monthly checks you are talking about. or at least what that entails.

When you take a noid apart to check, what am I looking for?
Will a swollen plunger be obvious?

Usually a swollen plunger will be fairly obvious, but depending on the piston design of the solenoid you are using it may not be. I've attached a few picts that I found up here on tech.

I would check them once a month. even using a stand alone filled with motor sport 109 one of my plungers still swelled a little bit. But nothing like the pic above.
