Question Do I really need a timing tuner?

I'm going to be doing a H/C swap, clutch, rear and a 90mm plate from Dave and am trying to decide if I really need to spend the $250 on a Timing Tuner. I just bought a nitrous psi gauge, fuel psi gauge, wideband gauge, wideband controller, O2 sensor and a mini progressive controller (all FJO) and that set me back about $1000 and a Nasty stage 1 fuel upgrade for about $870. Needless to say cash is a little short right now.

So do I really need a timing tuner? I know that it can help but can it wait for a while?

Thanks

How much do you plan on spraying? The good side to it is the majority of tuners will take out a X amount of timing for the amount your spraying. If you don't have a timing tuner then your always running with X amount of timing even N/A. There are other ways to pull timing with tuning without a timing tuner but I'm not too familiar with it. I bought a used tuner off of a member here and it works great.

I'm planning to spray 125-150. I know that adding timing will hurt the HP & TQ #'s but will it do anything "bad" to the engine?

if your going to spray, your going to have to take away timing. Thats based off of the stock timing. If your tuner has already advanced your timing, that will need to be backed down even more.

I bought mine used. I don't plan on spraying all that much, so I wanted the most I could get N/A, and then when I flip the switch, timing backs down

Thanks guys. I guess the answer is spend the cash so I don't have to worry about the engine. I mean whats $100-250 any way after a set of AFR's, OZ700 and a new 9" right?

Again thanks for the advice.

You could also run higher octane when you spray.

I already have to run 93 and for the price of anything better I don't think that I would be able to afford to drive it. I did forget to mention that this is and will remain my DD untill 2010 when I get a new Camaro.
