Default Building a window switch

Search isn't working right now for me and when it does nothing related to this pops up, so here goes:

What would it take to build my own window switch that won't spray between shifts? Have to intercept the tach signal and find a volt/rpm chart, need to find something that commands the shift, anything else? A friend of mine that does robotics said he would build one for me, just needs some information along those lines. Any help would be appreciated.

you've got to be kidding. First off, in parts alone... you need two comparitors, an a/d converter, half a dozen op amps.. etc. Ya, I can make you a schematic but even if you could build it (does your buddy design circuit boards too?) you'd have to calibrate it. They are too cheap to buy.

Good stuff, your buddy builds robotics, if it doesn't work he reprograms it.
If it doesn't work on your car you take the bus to work the next day.
Nice.

That would be cool project in all but You don't need to build **** like that any more, It's a lot cheaper to buy it off the shelf somewhere with a warranty. The only time I will build my own **** is if I cant find it somewhere and that is rare nowadays.

Sheesh, it's really not that hard to do. Tell your friend to use a opto-isolator and a 555 timer ckt and just tap into your 2-3 shift solenoid ckt off the pcm connector. Adjust the 555 timer to the delay you want so you don't spray thru the shift.

Oh, and I'm not a Robotics Engineer but, I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.

Or just be like everybody else and buy one.

Actually my friend can come up with the schematic, really just need to know voltage @ rpm and how I can find out the gear that I'm in

If your really hell bent on building one you better make it Microprocessor based because if you were to use discrete digital components, It's going to get complicated really quick. with discrete digital you going to need a voltage comparator and trim pot for your TPS. Your going to need a circuit to count RPM pulses, your going to need a few digital comparators for your upper and lower window set points, dip switches to set your upper and lower window switch set points, flip flops, a clock signal to sync every thing up, then hardwire everything up, and probably alot more. you get the idea.
BTW you better pray that one of those wires does not come loose or else your engine might go.

It would be built upon the basis that everything is a normally closed circuit. So rpm is a pulse and not a steady signal? That I was not aware of. He says he's up for the challenge he just needs some information electronically of the vehicle. Since several of you guys seem to know what all is entailed, if you could offer that information to me I can see if my friend can conquer the challenge he is up for.

Do a google search. There is one floating around on the internet w/ parts list and everything. Actually considered doing it as a project with my son but got a little frustrated trying to find the parts. Rat shack ain't what it used to be.

I think the name of it was Nino adjustable RPM or something similar.

Didn't look too tough as long as you've got a decent place to by the parts. I didn't want to go through the ordering hassle for piece parts. Those kind of things I want to see/hold prior to purchase to make sure I'm getting the right pieces. Probably $10 or less in parts.

I ended up buying a Harlan window switch. Little more than making it ourselves but still pretty cheap.

I have an electrical supply house not too far away that deals in anything you can get a part number for. I'll have to take a gander and see what I can come up with.

Otherwise I'll most probably go the same route as everyone else. Do the window switches sense when you're shifting and open the circuit to the solenoid during that time?

I use digikey all the time for parts that go out on the control systems that I work on. They have just about everything you could imagine.

#1 why not buy one?
#2 why not spray through the shifts (super/turbocharger guys are at full power on shifts, along with bad azz n/a guys)?
