O-rings won't keep the head from lifting imo. The bolts are stretching under extreme cylinder pressures, and the LSX block addresses this problem by adding an additional bolt for each cylinder. Thats really all that can be done, practically...

I'd go ahead and spend that extra 2 grand or so for the LSX block. You'll probably save that money in parts later if your really running a big shot like 250 or greater. pay now or pay later, its your choice..

9sec or faster & bang for the buck , LSX blocks are only 2000$. Last alot longer & 6bolt heads. If money is no problemo then ,Alum-warhawk block & 6bolt head. IMO

HKE 408 here
He's only planning on running 9s though. He already went 10.36 @129.99 on a 100 shot. A 402 with that or maybe a little more would go really close to 9.9x.

Backed that up several times.

RIP the black car.
Care to share the details about that setup? I have similar aspirations as you can see from the above pictures.

Thats what I've got, 5.3 block, stock cube, with good internals....hoping to have it up and running over Christmas, so we'll see how viable an option it is

I didn't say it was the best. I said it was the cheapest. You are comparing a $2000 block to a $200 block.

IMO - i think he will grow into lsx block. The worst thing i've seen , when you spray is the HEADS lifting. unless you do something DUMB. Thats why i say the LSXblock. I know it cost more , but it will last 10 times longer. IMO. You get what you pay for.

The 346 iron block, iagree with you. Depends how much power you want.OR gonna want.

Nos Power

I took the LS2 402. The weight savings trumps the cubes savings. The heads will lift before the block breaks. Aluminum is plenty strong. And then if you happen to hurt a piston, due to being a cheap bastard and spraying a big wet shot without a dedicated fuel cell, then you can open it up to a 408 and get the best of both worlds.

Why low compression? Spray loves compression.

I have an aluminum block LS2. 4 inch bore, 4 inch stroke ,out of the box Dart 225's and an out of the box Victor Jr manifold.
with 11:1 compression it made 586 hp on the motor and with a 150 shot, it made 798hp.

Thanks, I've been trying to plan something very similar out for my camaro. Except it's going to be stock displacement. I just picked up a rebuildable short block with blow by for $200. I've got the above $250 heads that I need to get a little more work into cleaning them up and such.

I'm guessing that's flywheel.

Yes, that is on an engine dyno, not chassis.

I should be putting the engine in the car in the next few months.
