Default 348+the jug...???

I'm thinking about upgrading to a 348 with forged internals. How much can these hold up to on the laughing gas without having to worry and about what is the normal performance gains over the stock 346 n/a? Thanks in advance.

I don't understand??? You're going from a 346 LS1 to a 348?????????????????????????????????????? Last time I checked the LS1 was a 347.

Either way, how much nitrous a "forged" motor can take is up to how much you are willing to spend on pistons, rods, etc. "Forged" motor X could safely take a 300 shot of nitrous while "forged" motor Y could safely take a 500 shot. It all depends on what parts you use.

A friend of mine just built a 408 that can easily handle a 500 shot of nitrous. But he also paid more for his pistons than he did for his heads.

I think a 500 shot is a wee bit much. You would be ok in that 250-300 range. Your concerns wont be how much can a forged bottom end take, but more along the lines of how much before you lift the heads. let me know if you need any help putting a kit together, I would be glad to help you out.

250-300 is a good range for a built motor. Like mike said watch the heads from lifting, or invest in some nice heads with thicker decks to help prevent.

Why not build a 370 iron block instead- spend almost the same money but get more ci.

370 incurs the cost of buying the block. Granted it is a step up.

I just read, diamond pistons (unless specifically stated) are only recomended to take a 150 shot but they sell nitrous pistons but only for a 383 from what I could see. I think wiseco's pistons will take over 500 but thats the piston not everything else.

They only recommend small applications. They'll take a lot more than that. I have a set of them that'll be going in my other motor. I was talking to the guys at Outlaw about them a while ago. They ran stock rods, off the shelf diamond 3.905 pistons and hit it with a 300 shot off the transbrake. It ran highish 9s. Eventually the stock rods started to distort, but the pistons were fine.

You *could* go 370, but then you get rid of your aluminum block and add weight to the front of the car....2 sides to every story

I sy build it for a 200-300 shot, spray it when you want, and you could still have enough motor to have fun with off the kit

:edit:

Also, if you're interested in a stock cube setup, let me know. A friend of mine (goes my BKHAWK1 on the boards) is selling his engine....is definitely gone 9's

Whew, glad I got Wisecos...

But I KNOW I've seen basic Diamond pistons take a 200+ time and again, I helped put the motor in the car. Thats a statement that I'm not sure can be made, because every company not only offers multiple piston option, but also the option to custom make pistons.....labeling by the maufacturer alone simply wouldn't be right IMHO.
