It's where the rings set. The grooves near the top of the piston.

the rings are a seperate piece than the piston. The rings sit in and around the top of the piston. So you pull out the piston and the rings come off. Dont have to replace the piston.

If you want thicker ring lands for nitrous use you need to buy a set of Forged pistons designed for nitrous use. What they do is move the down the whole ring pack, this results more material between the top of the piston and the groove for the top ring. Thus making the piston stronger and able the handle more nitrous. The material between the top of the piston and the top ring is what most consider a "Ring Land"

You buy a higher quality piston (forged), which will have stronger ring lands

If you want to replace the ringlands, you have to replace the pistons. You cannot replace just the ringlands, they are part of the pistons.

so if someone would go in to just put new pistons and rings in for N20, what would the cost be, or would it be more worth while to also put new rods in as well.

Would the block need any work/ cleaning up or should they just drop right in.

Default pistons and such

I have heard that are stock powder rods are good for close to 500 hp, and the weak part is the piston, rod bolts, rings ect...Im just going to put arp rod bolts, new rings, and leave the rods-see what happens. the pistons u need cost from 300-500 and im sure more if u so wanted them to lol! Im not ready to spend that yet, so ill try what i mentioned.

If you tear it down to replace the pistons, you need to have block machined. It could be as simple as a good hone, but doubt it. While doing all of this, I would go ahead and replace the rods with forged rods.

Sounds like a problem in the tune or in the build itself. You can make way more than that with diamonds and still be safe.

so what kind of money wouls someone be looking at- I know part wise, but wondering what the price would be for cleaning up the block.

Also wouldn't it be almost the same price as a forged 347 from TSP when all said and done.

how much was the machine work on the block.

I will be able to pull my motor pretty cheap. I am just worried about sending a aluminum block out to a local machine shop if you know what I mean.

I was thinking of going with about the same setup you have 99mongooSS
