Default any reason wire a bottle heater wire would melt

my bottle heater has been hooked up and functioning perfectly for about 4.5 months. i dont drive the car alot but the heater has been used roughly 50+ times with no issue

today when i flipped my arm switch (i have one switch that arms the whole system) within 30 seconds i smelled an electrical burn. after i pulled my shifter boot (most of my nitrous wiring runs under there so i thought it the best place to check). one of the connectors on the relay for my heater melted as did the covering on the wire about an inch up and the relay was very hot. it was not the main power supply or the one from the switch, it was one from either the element itself or the pressure switch. none of the other wires were damaged

weird thing is it didnt blow the fuse for the heater circuit and the relay worked fine. i did a short check for a short and found nothing so i cut the burnt wire and put another connector on and it worked fine all day at the track. i did notice at times the relay was kinda warm but not sure if that is just because it is under the console near the shifter hole or not

im gonna pull the console tomorrow and probably redo all the heater element wiring just to make theres no problem but what are the chances this was just a fluke, i has worked great for months???

thanks
ryan

well i would have said a short, thats usually the culprit of a burnt wire. But if you did the check and found nothing, i don't know what to tell you espicially since you are running it on a relay.

i had a relay go bad on me just like that once, but it stopped working entirely. i replaced the relay and the problem went away.

A few things that can melt a wire is:
Incorrect wire gage.(Not saying that you did this) A loose connection somewhere, and short some where.

about 16" long and i believe it is 14 gauge, not 100% though. its thicker gauge than the wires coming off the heater element though
