Default Nitrous tuning advice for 175+shot.

Currently I am running a 175 shot with tr6 plugs and 7 degrees pulled. I am going to try a 200 shot. What if more like 225+? Would tr8's work fine, i have heard they may foul, i do run rich. Also i will probably pull more timing like 10 degrees.
Is like 98 octane plenty good for this?

When in doubt, run the highest octane you can you won't hurt anything with the octane being too high.

Too rich will hurt just as much stuff as too lean, so careful with that.

I would definately go to a #8 plug, I run a #9 plug with a 150 shot, but I'm way up on the compression and would run a # 7 or #8 n/a

yopu should have a 7 in there on the 175. and a 9 on the 200. the 225 id go 9 or 10 but id start with a 10. and pull 9 deg for the 225. so around 19* total timming

and put some good gas in there. C16 or at least 12.

i run like low 10's for air fuel right now, ideally id be at mid 11's but cant hurt to be a bit rich?

I have run a 125-175 shot on 92 octane, not my preference but ran 102 last time and my o2's messed up so i mixed and ran about 98 and it was fine.

I have heard tr6 is good for 150-175, and have had no problem, tr7 for 175-225, and tr8 for 225-275

Wash cylinder walls of oil, detonate fuel between the rings, load up cylinders, etc.

Fuel gets in the rings and that's a real good way to lift a ringland. If you're seeing anything lower then 10.9 I would lean that back out into the 11.2 to 11.4 range to be safe.

Low to mid 11's is safe, high 11's to low 12's is on the lean side and will make max power but you're getting a little risky in the 12's, once the a/f is in the 10's you can very easily load up the cylinders, lift ringlands and can do soem damage, just as bad as running the car too lean.

It's a double edged sword, you can do just as much piston damage too rich as you can too lean.

Not what I would use or have my customers use. You also have to look at what it wants on the motor. THe plug will tell you what it should be but you should error on the cold side not the hot.

No way to rich. Do some reading on how to read a nitrous plug but id bet you need to start between 11.8-12.2 but thats gona be give or take .5 depending on heads/cam/timing events etc.

Pretty much what I said. That 10.x to 1 a/f is a ringland killer.

11.4 to 1 is a good spot to aim for, still conservaitve enough so it won't melt stuff down (timing being right) but not so rich that it's gonna eat the ringlands up.

Sounds good, ill try adjust it. Seemed like ever since i used 102 unleaded it was running more rich and changing jets didnt have much effect

I run torco 118Nos fuel, not because I have to, but becasue it's just safe.

Get the car on a dyno, get the a/f at about 12.0 n/a, and start there, you n/a tune may be what's killing you not the jetting.

If you're not in open loop, get it set that way, turn all the o2 sensors off they're nothing but trouble.

Thta 3920 raceweight is just wrong too... get some damn weight out of the car son!

JL is just about right although we always start with the na tune that runs the best MPH( timming and fuel wise) this gives you a good base. then we use the lb/hr of fuel methode for a given nitrous jet. it will get us to within 5% normally first time. I don't want to scare anyone with our AF but its over 12.5 even on a 300 hit. But like i keep saying te plug will tell you. A world class nitrous guy showed us this and it has worked great this year. ATV has went a better mph than ever on 1/2 the nitrous. and .5 faster on the same shot as last year.

Everyone repeat RICH IS NOT SAFE!!!

Rich is not safe, Rich is not safe

My plugs read a touch rich, and there's very little heat in the ground strap at all, no heat getting to the base of the plug at all. I know I probably can run more timing, (only at 17 degrees right now with the 150 shot and 118nos torco fuel) but it's not hurting itself, so I dunno if it's worth it.

Adding 2 degrees and dropping the exhaust might be worth a good bit though, one of these days I'm gonna have to try it.

I am glad i found this post, i have been running about as rich as the OP. as far as the 3900lb haters...haha my 220 doesnt help any. But its a street car with a/c. I managed to get it to 3860 for the next race day with removal of passenger seat and rear folding seat. I can drop another 20-40 with bumper supports. Aside from that i dont know what i want to drop being its a cruiser as well . Ill just add more power .

My car's 3330 with my 280 lbs in it, so you've got plenty left. How much of it I would take out of a street car, that I dunno though. Without sacrificing safety/comforts, you're not gonna get a ton lighter that I can promise.
