Default ms4 cam to big?

Looking for a cam to buy, i see an ms4 for sale, is it to radical for the street? i hear with a good tune and proper bolt ons (poted tb, headers, exhaust) its not to bad, ppl say i should drive a car with a big cam in it first, but there arent any around me . just wondering if anyone is running this cam..specs are..

having run cams from a 224/224 to 240/242 I would stick with the 224's instead. It's personal choice of course but the overall performance was better with the smaller cam.

It doesnt develop 350 hp until 4600 rpms, it all depends on what your idea of streetable is. A good tune will make it streetable but that car will give up the first 100 feet trying to get to its power band. From 5000 rpms and up that car will rip but before that its mundane at best. Where a smaller cam yields power throughout the range not just up top. It's all personal taste. The big cam was a lot of fun to play with but kind of a pain at times as well. I had the same combo as that guy does in that graph.

If I was doing a 346 again I'd do the 59cc 205's and a 228/232 112 lsa cam.

I would personally go in the mid 230 range. If you have heads, make sure that you will have clearance for that size of a cam. If your heads are stock then you should be fine.

I had the TSP 233/239 cam in my 01 zo6 and did not like it. Like 99blancoSS said, my powerband was 4500-6700. Up top it pulled great but down low it felt like dog. I did have ported heads that were not milled, which may have been part of the problem.

i have the same short term goal at least 400rwhp with full bolt ons and cam...i first thought ms4 but lots of people were saying that's too huge...so i was looking at the ms3 but then saw some posts on the tsunami cam...hard decision

All i want is to have a choppy idle and mid to top end power...who cares about low end power?

Here you go, this was a HC package that was installed last week on a 98 Camaro SS. Small 228/232 cam, CNC ported 5.3 GM Heads,m LS6 intake, Pacesetter headers and a Borla loud azz muffler kit.

This car gained a bit over 120hp over its baseline. Take out the ported heads and this car with the cam and headers would still make at or very near 400 to the wheels. Has a nice lope, no driveability issues at all.

I have a 228/230 .571 .592. It starts to pull at like 3000 RPM.
I have been pretty happy with it.
Headers, full exhaust, LS6 Intake, stock heads.

^^ If your looking for mid to top end then the ms4 or trex is in your range.

One thing not mentioned is gears will help a lot as well. But you sacrafice gas mileage.

low end power is when you want to pass someone 6th gear and dont have to down shift or get on the gas very much to get by them in quick notice.
Its personal choice and everyone drives differently.

LOL nice cam choice
Can you throw a 240 or 238 chart on top of that with similar heads and rear-end and show the comparison in powerbands.

The cam I had in my 02 z28 was a 230/232 on a 111. As far as bolt ons I had full exhaust, lid, and a stall. I put down 376hp. My tune was a off on the dyno passes, We couldn't get it to hold an idle. Thinking back on it, a 90/90 would have probibly fixed that problem.

I was running high 11's, low 12s. Which was at that time the best cam only LS1 in this area... ha ha ha.. Meaning 1/4 times>>>>>Dyno numbers
