my new build
i guess its time to announce that im starting a new build in the near future.
so far this is what i have planned:
LSX454 NA
AFR245(mamofied)
fast 102/102(mamofied)
Custom Cam
dragon slayer crank
forged pistons and rods
im in the beginning stages of planning so i dont have all the details.
what im going for is around 630rwhp and 600ish rwtq(hopefully on the upper side of 600). it will be a street strip car of coarse. im pretty excited for this new motor. im hoping to have it in the car this winter. in the mean time, im going to install a:
9 in rear with 4:11s
new clutch
some tranny work
suspension
and a few other things that dont really need to be mentioned.
anyway thats it for now

thanks man! im pumped about this biuld. i dont think ill change my mind, i am set on going NA and this is the motor i have truely wanted for a long long time now. i love the idea of having all that NA torque and the 454 is the way to get it, plus it has those classic cubes. the only thing i might change is the block, i have heard some not so good things about the LSX block and that the best way to go is with a resleeved LS2 block but it is alot more expensive..but if im putting all this cash into a build i might wana make sure its not gonna fail.

Well if you do change your mind you should go 427 LSx that will get you there. I wouldnt resleve anything. Mike went through that and from what I remember is that the sleve failed. But that's just me.
And 3k for your complete motor? Or are you going to keep some things?

Congrats on the jackpot. . I just learned a little more about these newer cars by lookin through the posts. I'm a newbie to these things. Was all about old school Pontiac engines for quite a while.

Nice man, looking forward to seeing the build thread. Thats the motor I've always wanted...I estimated my supporting mods with motor to be in the mid 20k range so probably not lol.

I did the 454LSX thing, unless they have absolutely perfected the bore stroke combo I would do the 427LSX instead. If I had done that I may still have my SS now. I remember thinking how COOL it would be to have a 454, it would have been almost as cool to have the 427...

Sleeving blocks has come a long way since my old Darton wet sleeved block was done (circa 2002?). ERL does an amazing job with the dry new sleeved blocks and I would take an ERL sleeved block over an LSX any day of the week.

That new combo sounds like its really gonna move. Good luck punching the block out to 454, I hope it isn't too much trouble.
If you ever decide to sell the LS1 engine let me know I have an El Camino in need of one
