Default Cam swap

Hey anyone wanna do a cam swap on a Z06 in their garage

I'm a little torn here, if I tear apart the car in my garage the old lady is probably going to freak and rightfully so based on the terms we decided on when we bought it.... Unfortunately mods are like crack and I can't kick the habit.

This leads me with two options:

1. Pay someone to do it, I got a quote from Robert at Gen III an EXCELLENT shop. He is hard to get into and that is alot of money for a job that I could easily do myself. IF I couldn't it would be well worth it....you guys know what I mean.

2. Do the springs in my garage and find somewhere else to do the cam.

I don't want to inconvenience anyone so I'll probably pay Rob to do it. It would be nice to just drive it someplace I could trust and have it done when I get it back.....

If I dont have to put my car in the rain... you are welcome to use my garage (you'd have to get the car up the driveway though). That way, you'd have money for HPTuners
Lots of air tools and masses of extra LSx parts

LOL I'll have to raise it up before I drive over Do you have room in there to slide the steering rack out? Yes that would ease the budget for HP tuners.....

Yeah...just got back.

The block with the ventilation is in the back of the truck waiting for me to take it to the aluminum recyclers.

I have to do heads and cam on teh Mustang in the next month or two, and I think I'm gonna pay for that (local great place can do it for 650, which is less than I expected)... so no BIG rush on the HP Tuners... but when we can save you money, we can save you money

Cam Bobby? Already? Dang, that didn't ake you very long.

Don't you have to disconnect/remove the ABS on a Z06 to install a cam?

hmm don't know, if you have to remove it to take out the steering rack then yes... Looking at LS1howto it doesn't look to hard just a bit involved. once that is out of the way there is all kinds of room.

I've got a new phone here ready to plop a SIM card in this afternoon. I lost my phone on the flight from Boston. I spent 1/2 an hour scouring that f&*(ing plane... I guess someone took it. I'll be "back" online with a phone tonight.

OH its VERY tempting but it would only be few HP over the stealth cam, and mine will be easy to tune and drive. In an F-body I'd be all over that cam though!!!

if you're sticking with stock heads, I'd recommend not getting the stealth cam as the high lift will be a little lost, to some extent, and it makes your valvetrain really noisy, and it affects your valvespring life, and makes you buy stiff valve springs, which are usually the reason your valvetrain is noisy... I'd custom grind a 222° / 224° on a 116° with around .563" lift. Depending upon your Z, you might could even stick with the stock springs, making the swap that much easier.

LOL where were you a month ago when I BOUGHT the cam I'm going with some good springs and alot of stock LS6's are getting really good performance out of the cam. Shoot .581 lift is not alot compared to what most cam only guys are running these days. Plus vavletrain noise shouldn't be a problem. Ride in a Z06 with Stingers all you hear is exaust and tire noise, which is my ONLY complaint about the car.

he can't hear you, ellis. his engine's idling and all he hears are lifters.
if you get a partition for the rear, it really helps the exhaust and tire noise. It's at the top of my shopping list. ...right after my V2SQ.

LOL I hear you guys that is why I've put a Stealth II in instead of a F13 from Futural. I looked at cams and based my decision on performance results.

I had a much more aggressive cam in the WS6 and it didn't really make too much of the sewing machine noise. Yes it was there but it wasn't ridiculous. I mean if .581 going to be that hard on my vavletrain?

The cam is not in yet I'm not pig headed so I could easily sell it an make another choice. But it ain't going to be a hot cam...

I have an 01 so springs are going to have to be changed anyways...

I basically want my same power band moved up a little, is that too much to ask

yeah I'm going to order another shorty antenna (somehow the first one ended up on the z28) and a partition soon...

Bobby
