$2.57 for a gallon of gas, nuff said... What the hell, guess it is not enough said. I pre paid $15.00 for my Swift and the usually almost fills it up. Then on the way home I passed a station that had gas for $3.79 per gallon (yes regular). 
Guess the Explorer is for short drives only (14mpg) what a POS. My Camaro gets 22 mpg at 500 plus hp.
In 1999 I bought gas for .99 cents in Michigan, 5 years later over double, so in 2010 will it be $5.00 \ gallon. I know it prob will not buy I am a little mad.
Sorry just wanted to crab to all of you, this just hit me wrong.

I remember 1980 very well when prices then hit close to $2 a gallon briefly then settled back to $1.40 which adjusted to todays dollar is more like $3 per gallon. So, while I don't like the $2.71 I paid today I try to keep it in perspective. It will come back down. Not to $1.50 but it will come back down. Economics will not support it. Wages would have to go up drastically to coincide with the prices of goods and services going up because of it. I know I will not be getting a 100% raise anytime soon. At least the federal mileage allowance has jumped from 32cents to 41cents per mile which pays for my gas still but not the wear and tear of using my vehicle to go to the job sites.

Same with Social Security, do folks really think it is ever going away (or there will be something else that will replace it), like wake up the next morning and no checks. The country would be a battle ground, lol.

$2.68 for premium here... good thing I only fill up about once a month in my car, considering I only drive it a couple times a week. If I daily drove it I wouldn't be able to afford ANY new parts for the car...

While I don't like the gas prices this high considering the history of prices in the country, I have to say that we still pay very little for gas if compared to other countries around the globe.
We're the biggest oil market, that's obvious, but when I travel overseas (every 2 years or so) I fell sorry for those guys in Europe that pay US$5.00 sometimes US$7.00 per gallion and also in South America where gas is so expensive that the best selling brand new cars are all 4 cilinders and 1.0 liters -- We drive cars with 5.7, 7.0 and bigger engines here, so I'll start getting mad only when gas hits $5 or more which I hope won't happen in my lifetime.

Its been no huge secret the government wants to see gas at $3 a gallon - and stay there. Right now there is a crude oil glut world wide and per gallon prices have been falling. You would think that would translate to lower prices but it doesn't - it only means those at the top are making a little less on their stock.
The rest of the market will adjust, it always does.
What really kills us are taxes per gallon, I think the 3rd or 4th in the nation at 32¢ a gallon. You lose that then you have what the government will keep it at.

We have 5 gas stations in our little town all with in a mile to mile and a half from one end of the town to the other.
Arco this morning was $2.38 for Reg, $2.48 for Mid grade & $2.58 for prem.
Chevron was about the same
Safeway was $2.42,$2.52 & $2.62
The Shell down the street was about the same as safeway But not a half a mile farther down the road there is another Shell & Man it was $2.54,$2,64 & $2.74 OUCH
