I'd guess it's either the clutch, throw out bearing or tranny. So, it doesn't do it sitting still? Or with the clutch in revving it up? And what happens if you are rolling along & slip it into neutral & let out the clutch? How about in gear & just let off the gas? When did it start? (as in right after you powershifted into 3rd or......sorry, troubleshooting over the phone is difficult)

Sounds like it might be the trans. Tell us more. Does it do it sitting still in 'N' ? Do you have to be moving?

Hmmm sounds like the tranny but the first thing I would recommend checking is the tranny mount anytime I hear Bang and tranny I think mount since I have gone through a few of them. Usually that is a lounder bang with a bigger shift, but I'm guessing if it was really screwed it may always make noise, then when you put the clutch in it takes the load off and the tranny settles in some. Probably not it from what it seems you are describing but I'd check it anyways its much cheaper and easier than the alturnatives and takes 15 minutes to change out...

Definitely check the tranny mount on that... us M6s can be really hard on them. If you need a replacement one in a pinch, I have a spare stock one that actually is in very good shape, only about 15k miles on it.

Also, this may sound really retarded, but check your lugnuts. This happened to my buddy in his cobra (his name is lugnut on the boards here), although i would think it's the tranny mount.

From what you described like a said it doesn't sound like a mount but it would still be the first thing I would check if under load the car clunks and when not under load it stops. There is a lot of slop in the T56 to the shifter so I don't know if you'd feel it or not. Noises are pretty hard to troubleshoot without actually hearing them.

Another thought... check not only the torque arm mount, but check the torque arm itself. A broken torque arm can clunk away in the driveline tunnel...

Ticking that keeps pace with speed sounds like it could be a u-joint or something coming in contact with the drive shaft. Can you see any rub marks or scratches on it? If the TA is loose enough, it could possible hit the DS. Or it could still be the throw out bearing since it goes away when you push in the clutch.....

Sounds like everyone has I covered. The only thing I can offer, I have a 99 with 75k, was that my clutch was making all kinds of noises that led me to believe it was something else at times. I'm not sure how bad yours is, but mine would not slip at all in the lower gears. Only at high rpms at first and then grabbing 2nd gear rubber. The whole time it would make different noises each day. One day it would be quiet the next I could swear the tranny was going to fall out. I never had any trouble shifting or finding gears but the noises were horrendous. I would definately keep looking at the drivetrain. The chirp of a u-joint can sound like bang at times as well. Just my experiences.
