Default Lookin For A Daily Driver

Going back and forth to work (40 miles roundtrip) Is killing my pockets at 10.2 MPG. So I was wondering if anyone had any small cars that get good gas mileage up for sale?

I have been seriously considering going with a Prius myself. Or maybe a Geo Metro that still gets around 50mpg. I hear ya though. These gas prices and higher taxes coming are killing me too. I am getting about 18 out of the Trans Am right now but that is with considerable freeway driving on the tank. I have an 04 Acura RL that gets about 22 that I want to trade in for something cheeper on the payments and cheeper in the tank.

I would go with a Geo Metro 5 Speed Manual car. My husbands when he drives his gets at least 45+ a gallon & when I drive it it gets slightly worse (thats because I am learning how to drive a manual tranny right now)

We picked ours up for $500 with lots of spare parts (engine & lots of spare tires) start looking around you never know what you will find for under 1000.

$300 and you can take the 1990 Geo Storm...after the 29th.
New tires & brakes.
Looks like a POS right now but we are going to do a 1/2 Zanio 1/2 Meguires on it just for grins and giggles

1988 Subaru Loyale.

I bought one from a friend a little while ago for $100. (he said it had a blown headgasket) $30 transmission modulator and $10 Junkyard waterpump later I was getting 30-35mpg driving to school and back. Just NO power. Made me miss the bird. Sold it a week or so later for $1K.

I am not sure what your budget is, this may be a little much but I was looking at several used Aveo's at Roy Robinson Chevrolet in Marysville...

5k miles basically brand new $5-6k.

I am still getting 45-50 mpg in the Jetta. And Its not a piece of **** aveo/geo. And not quite as gay as a prius, I mean that is one ugly car! LOL

Anybody want a 03 Jetta $16K... I need a GTO.

Geos are not POS, you can run them & run them & not kill them. Ours has just shy of 200k miles on it & my brother in laws has over 200 k miles on it & they both still run top notch.

By husband bought one brand new in 89 & it had just over 200k miles on it before the engine gave out & that was because his sister who was driving it daily (after we turned it in to his father after we moved out of the area) didnt put oil in it for 5 months. We sold the car & the guy rebuilt the engine & it ran for another 300k miles before blowing up.

I paid 5k out the door for my Swift, about 8k mi on it, 41 mi per gallon, stop & go, highway you name it. 1 brake set fronts about 30 bucks, 1 set of tires $110, 150k mi later...very happy. It is a great car. Going to give it to my son in the next six months when he gets a reg job and drives, then for 6k I prob will get the pos Aveo for that price. Keep the Camaro off the street and my DD costs down.

So there...

The Aveo is an ugly car.

I alway think wouldn't it be a perfect world to own a 4 gen Camaro as a DD, that would be my dream.

I can get a lawn mower to run 100K, doesn't mean it isn't a POS. Its a tin can on wheels. I had a GF in florida hit a raccoon with her Geo metro and it damn near totaled the car, and she didn't even run off the road.

You would Never catch me in one of those death-mobiles.

The Metro is a tin can, husband had one when I met him and it was *totalled* by the insurance company when an SUV drove into the side of him in a parking lot doing 5mph. (stupid driver, she didn't stop at the stop sign)

The Storm has more weight to it and a back seat people can actually sit in.

strobelight & Racehead
Not much to tell about, has a few dents, interior is in great shape (amazing), about 130K miles on it but I would need to check. There is some funkyness with the power steering which was very common for that year and model - just don't feel like fixing it. Still runs like a top...my son will be driving it from the 16th to 29th (it was his) and I can't guarantee what shape it will be in after that but I'll keep you posted.

If you come out for the BBQ you can take it for a test drive.

Careful what you wish for......mine is a DD and it blows chunks..........of course, once I get a few kinks worked out (rear end/exhaust/battery/etc) it will be much less of a pain. But every time I need to move/haul/carry anything more then a paper bag with booze in it, I have to borrow someone else's vehicle.

Plus my Rottie has a helluva hard time climbing in and out of it.

It is prob to late for that to happen I wanted to use my stock parts in the DD but I gave most everything away, lol. I had a 1983 Camaro used as a DD (4cyln) and hauled my kids in it, lol.

We bought an 87 Subaru GL for $800 back in Nov.

It's been getting 34mpg. We just put in a new rotor and cap, so I'm hoping to get a little better mpg

These cars actually can hold quite a bit... when I go to the track, my car looks like a damn clown car with all the crap I put in it: slicks, skinnies, big toolbox, jack, two canvas folding chairs, tire inflator, electric impact wrench, cooler, my helmet, and a bunch of other crap.

Crap... after looking at all that, I really do need a truck!
